The bird at the end at Mikasa is a parasitic jaeger. Among other things, it feeds on smaller birds or attacks other birds to steal their food. You could also call it an "attack" bird.

My understanding is Mikasa still loving him and not forgetting about him is what he didn’t see (as we can tell from his reaction speaking with Armin as well as the 3-year skip ahead to the epilogue). Doing what needed to be done despite still loving Eren ended the curse. A call back to Eren Kruger telling Grisha to love someone inside the walls otherwise this cycle would continue.

but why couldn’t he see that? I think it might’ve been just to justify Eren being a d\*\*\* with Mikasa and Armin while still being “good.” Like, maybe Ymir didn’t want Eren to see what Mikasa was going to do so that Eren will do everything he can to make sure that Mikasa kills him (telling her he always hated her and f\*\*\*ing Armin up)... but why don’t simply make Eren being a d\*\*\* and leave it like that? What was the point in trying to make Eren a hero?

He knew his role in everything was to lay waste with The Rumbling, and their role was to kill him. He figured that in their current resolve they wouldn’t have the heart to do it, so he backed them into a corner where “he always hated them” to get them to not feel bad about killing him when the time comes. Those weren’t his actually feelings towards his friends, so he felt he owed them an explanation about his true intentions. He couldn’t give those after he died, so he using the Founder’s powers to drum up some temporary memory loss to be returned postmortem.

”why was it Mikasa?”... “well, that’s something only the founder Ymir would know. I myself I’m still wondering about what exactly it is that Mikasa will be doing. I don’t know yet. All I knew for certain was the end result that Mikasa being chosen would result in.” He knew that their role was to kill him but apparently he didn’t know it was Mikasa who would cut his head. I just don’t see what was the point, it would make no difference if he knew.

See that’s where the confusion lies because 1\. We know the end of the curse had to deal with Mikasa’s decision and 2\. We all (Eren included) knew that Eren was gonna die. That’s why I believe her actually killing him WASN’T the decision. The decision was whether she would resent him for his actions and choose to leave him in the past, or still hold him dear even after he’s gone, despite in their time in the Paths when he urged her to move on.

if that’s the case then this ending is even worse. So the key to break the curse was for Mikasa to continue to love a mass murderer even years after he’s gone? Loving the man who slaughtered her village, cut her tongue, gouged her eye, enslaved her, etc; for 2000 years brought brought Ymir a lot of pain and she wanted to free herself from that. The key is Mikasa. The reason is a mystery. But there’s a parallel between Yimir’s love for Fritz and Mikasa’s love for Eren (she’s sort of a slave to Eren and will continue to love him even if he’s a mass murderer), so maybe that’s why Mikasa must kill Eren in order to free Ymir, as a symbol of what Ymir should’ve done to Fritz and couldn’t because of that toxic love. So... wouldn’t it make more sense that in order to break the curse Mikasa should finally STOP loving Eren (a mass murderer) after killing him and actually MOVE ON, as Ymir should’ve done?

Yeah, I agree. Also, in that sense Mikasa serves as the ultimate symbol of freedom (not Eren, as we we're led to believe).

I really don't like Mikassa as a character, feel like that ending was a really s\*\*\* way to make her relevant after pretty much not having any presence for like the whole story

EDIT: Feel like the whole Hizuru and Mikasa thing was another attempt to bring Mikasa some spotlight but that didn't lead like anywhere at all? That whole s\*\*\* became irrelevant extremely quickly

I was actually going to add that as well lol. But that's still a presence. In the manga she has a lot of moments in first two chapters of her caring and being pivotal in some of the battles inside the walls

Feel like shes a very by the book standard female character that depends on male protagonist that you see in so many shonens. This whole "it was all because of Mikasa" feels very forced and a cheap way to develop her character/make her relevant

When did you pick up the manga? The anime nerfed her personality a lot during the 1st 3 seasons compared to how she acted or thought during those same arcs in the manga
