It’s based most significantly on the Madagascar plan, confirmed.

The following is not a spoiler, just what inspired Isayama, this is all stuff we know in the anime too.
WWII, when Nazis were losing - their last ditch plan was to forcefully deport all Jews onto the island of Madagascar (Eldians and Paradis). The Jews were going to be HEAVILY experimented on by Nazi scientists, while kept on the island (the Titan Serum). Here’s a map of the AOT world, the island in red is Paradis island.

If you flip that map, Paradis Island actually becomes Madagascar in our real word:

Alternate Alphabear ending;

Eren destroys 80% of the world. Eats all Titan-shifters through combat. Returns to Paradis and sits next to the tree. He begins decaying into the tree as his body mutates into the “all-life centipede” (because he has all titans in him), Historia gives birth to a girl named Ymir. In the epilogue, show how the rest of the world attacks Paradis, a now grown Ymir runs for shelter/refuge and decides to hide in the tree, she falls and the last panel is Eren’s Centipede reaching out to a falling Ymir with the words: “The sad thing about mankind, is that our history always finds a way of repeating itself”. FIN

TENET MUSIC INTENSIFIES

That would’ve been a WAY better ending & better received.

cant believe isayama ruined/rushed the ending (and the manga) just because he wanted to end it with chapter 139 because the number symbolizes the death of one thing and the rebirth of another. 139 symbolizes an important change that can go in the right or WRONG direction.

Eren's turn from protagonist to antagonist (with his own agency) should've been fully realized. And his defeat should've come at a greater cost. Him (not the fkn slug) irreversibly turning his "friends" into titans to stop armin and mikasa would've been compelling I think.

100%, which is why I think it should’ve went the Thanos route.

This story was so much bigger than just them 3. In all honesty, mother f*** Mikasa & Armin. Them some b**** ass frauds & I never liked em at all. Like deadass dog water dookie ass characters.

If they got killed while trying to protect the world from Eren, it would’ve made the story 10x better.

Mikasa is such an underdeveloped character imo (isayama shoehorned that azumabito business, but it ultimately led nowhere).

One thing is certain tho. Eren's story needed to end in tragedy - a consequence of his loss of humanity. I just noticed how it would resemble Daenery's journey (which was also butchered - but the core idea was *fascinating*). A symbol of freedom becoming a symbol of terror.

The last couple chapters some mid sadly so not THE goat but def up there anyway

Started the anime like 2 weeks ago and I'm already all caught up. Season 4 episode 1 had me puzzled af, but I binged all of S4 part 1 nonstop. Currently rewatching Season 1 with the knowledge I have now and I can't believe how well thought out this plot is
