I meant to edit my response instead of fully delete but i feel what you saying . It’s just hard for me to know what is a minority or not . Guess time will tell when we get to it
You can look it up.
The Japanese audience loved the ending. They didn’t want this big horrible ending where Eren was heartless and just killed the world and his friends, they wanted his actions to lead to the Alliance all living happy lives.
I’m sure there will be some complaining from the usual types but I think the people who aren’t closet sociopaths will really appreciate the ending.
Oh yeah , people that wanted a specific route for the show to take are weird for being mad . I noticed a decent amount of folk being irrational when the final chapters dropped because it didn’t go that way
That’s the thing.
People became so desperate for their narrative to be THE narrative.
They were never gonna be flexible enough to accept the artist’s genuine vision.

You see I’m not even advocating for that side of the outrage . I even think those folks are tripping . I’m more so speaking about the camp that felt the final chapter was more so rushed than anything. Which made certain dialogue choices come across more weird than impactful

I’m with you in that boat.
I think by Isayama fully committing to the 13-9 chapter, which is a neat little Easter egg, don’t get me wrong, he really cut his legs out from under himself time wise.
Those extra pages in the volume were even more proof that he wasn’t able to flesh it out enough when he should have taken the time necessary to put everything in.
And even then the ending isn’t so rushed it’s bad. Trust me, I read the Gantz manga, now there is an example of an ending so rushed it ruined the entire manga. It was like dude just said “I’m so over this s***, let’s just hastily assemble all the pieces out of nowhere and pull a final fight out of my arse in two chapters so I can go holiday in Guam”.
It all had to do with Armin thanking him for it. It made sense what Eren did, he essentially made himself the enemy of the world and the brave Eldians that stopped him the heroes. He also got rid of enough people so that no enemy nation could scrounge up enough force to retaliate for the next century. But it was still morally repugnant and that conversation needs to be more thought out by MAPPA. Armin can still be grateful that Eren would be willing to make himself a martyr to the world without actually condoning his actions (which btw were heavily influenced by Ymir Fritz. The main thing when it’s all said and done is that Eren thinks he’s finally free after starting the Rumbling but the fact is that he was never free and Ymir always had him set on the route that would lead to Mikasa killing him.) I also don’t think Eldians should have ended up more oppressed post Rumbling ala post WW2 Germany, the whole crux of the story was Eren doing all that horribleness to give Eldia prosperity. Most people wouldn’t have liked an ending with Paradis in a worse place then before.
It’s also really important to note that pretty much all of the Japanese audience (the main and most important demographic) liked the manga ending and weren’t obsessed with a nihilist and miserable ending || like some of the Western audience were. So to change that ending into something more || negative towards the Eldians and the main group would be spitting in the Japanese audience’s direction and essentially cutting off their nose to spite their face just to please a very small vocal minority.
Meant 'like post-WW2 Germans' as in Nuremberg trials and actively trying to educate the public on the wrongs that were done under the regime. Agreed on everything else though.
People are free to not like it.
But they also need to understand when their opinion is part of a vocal minority and that creative enterprises shouldn’t be pressured to change artistic directions just to placate that vocal minority that are renowned for turning 180 and being to complain about something else.
If they really believe the manga ending wasn’t to their liking then they should stop watching the anime now and stop trying to influence others who will make their own opinion and enjoy it.

Comments like “It's good that there is a variety of opinions regarding the ending, but I don't think that some of the overseas readers who read the chapter illegally have the right to complain (original: 色んな意見あるのは良いけど、違法で見てる海外勢が叩くのはマジで無理。お前らには意見言う資格ねぇから。)” and many more.
Lotta people hate on the ending which I thought was fine but AoT ends for me when you know what happens, everything after that I'm just like it is what it is but when THAT happens, peak f***ing fiction

anyone who wished to see Eren win gotta be a psycho for sure. If anything, I think the story was too sympathetic towards him. Slave, tragic character, free or not, Eren's actions were abhorrent and the story takes them too lightly (armin thanking him for genociding the world). It could NEVER end with him being "free".
Thread already spicy talking about the ending and we're just 1 episode into the final final season

Armin never officially said "thank you" to him. In that reddit link, the fan translations f\*\*\*ed up on that.
This is what he said closest as possible
I swear I won't make your transgression of turning into a mass murderer for our sake go to waste
Still kind of corny, but that's manga for ya. But he never said thank you

That's fair, but even then, the dialogue is pretty terrible

Yeah, but I guess that's what happens when you try to rush a manga for a 139 number Easter egg
Should have made it stretch to one more chapter and everything be a bit more fleshed out.

What was the easter egg anyway? I've seen some ppl mention that.

I remember reading about it when the chapter dropped. i forgot honestly lol. Someone else remember?
Something to do with the date of the chapter releasing?
The intro is wild because it's not even spoilers, just telling you straight up what's about to happen lmao but it's the best 1 since the 1st
I think I'm going to rewatch the show before starting the last season. There's so much stuff I don't remember
They act like it was bad as GOT when D&D just flat out gave a nonsensical ending because they wanted to hurry up and start their Star Wars movie. It also didn’t when they ripped the vast majority of their seasons straight out of the book and as soon as that ran out they suddenly thought they were creative geniuses and it became abundantly clear in the last season that they absolutely weren’t.
Everything that happened in AOT, especially the ending, was set up right from the beginning of the manga and was alluded to and properly put together for years.
The problem is those loud people on the internet that for the last two years really bought into the “MUH CHAD EREN COMMIT GENOCIDE DISRESPECT B\*\*\*\*ES” narrative that clearly wasn’t the case at the end of the story.
That “I’ve become so much like Eren Yeager it’s scary” meme is supposed to be a joke but it really feels like those people took it seriously.
!https://youtu.be/VFDMrApuoc4absolutely cannot wait for ppl to call eren a simp again, ad nauseam
