AOT is really good. Shame the last arc had some of the highest highs and some of the lowest lows
Really could've been the undisputed GOAT...
In retrospect, a lot of energy on Isayama having bad politics was wasted in trying to talk about it from a western angle. Outside the German aesthetic, and not even the right German era aesthetic, I think linking Isayama to antisemitism and Nazism was a little misguided.
There were probably things he probably could've handled better, but it was mostly likely out of ignorance. I don't think antisemitism and Nazism play nearly as a big a role in the east Asian conscience as it does they do in Western society. But in all that noise, I think a lot of things relating to possible apologism to Imperial Japan was ignored. The story makes a lot more sense as an allegory for post war Japan and conversations about rearmament. That said it's probably not as sympathetic to that as people let on either, but man does fly close to the sun.
Anyways just something that randomly crossed my mind.
my first full rewatch + showing it to my lady for the first time. it's her 2nd anime after chainsaw man a month or so ago.
armin death and revival just fried her
Tbh
rumbling should’ve jus killed everyone. Only ending that would’ve been respected

goat show tbh
the ending was perfect and the fact that it's so controversial, with many misunderstanding the themes, makes it even more genius to me
what makes it funnier to me is how a lot of manga readers' hate stems from reading poorly translated bootleg panels lol

i’m serious lol
to be fair though, i was anime-only and avoided the community and the discourse so i wouldn’t run into spoilers. all i knew was the ending was polarizing.

It's definitely a japan imperialism influence and knowledge that sits heavy with this story. Eren point across the ocean (China) and labeling them as the enemy is crazy optics looking back at it
I know he did his best with critiquing Eren, but it says a lot when a large amount of your audience is rooting for Eren

The anime improved upon many things from the manga including the final dialogue but, let me ask you:
Can we consider anything that contains plot holes perfect?

technically no, i guess. i cannot argue wholeheartedly there, haha.
“perfect” was probably more of a hyperbole for “it was as good as it could’ve been.”

Let's not kid ourselves, there are a lot of anime fans that have a far right disposition, that's not really on Isayama. But he definitely wrote things funny.
Rewatched The Last Attack
You know what I don’t remember enjoying the after after credits scene as much as I did this time. That was actually a real nice way to end it
rewatch complete.
being able to watch that straight through without the final chapter being broken apart across several years made me love this series so much more.
what an incredible piece of work... man...
god.
The reason for why Ebara’s cut is getting traction is because it was featured Pewdiepie’s trip to WIT
I keep this anime tucked like a vintage bottle of wine. I’ve tasted its contents, but I haven’t finished it. It’s been so long that I’ve almost forgotten its taste, but the body still craves it. I know it will satiate me, but I fear the void it’ll bring once it’s done. So I leave it unfinished…
