That was my first thought because maybe they live in a spot where the cloud from the volcano blocks out the sun, or maybe even they live underground so they'd lack pigment, pale blue, almost gray. With black ash for their face and body markings. But an almost black color could help them blend in w/ their surroundings if it is near a volcano. Just need them to stay away from the red that everybody thinks they're gonna go with, would make zero sense.

I think there will be noticeable differences in color at least, nothing dramatic, making them red cause they’re associated with fire would just be lazy and would ignore their basic biology though. We’ve seen how differences in environment has effected their evolution, I guess it just depends on how they approach them, if they were born and had to adapt to the fire or if they were just outcasts of pre existing clans.

If they called the ash people they probably gonna be covered in grayish/blackish ash but still but still have the skin tone of blue

i mean a sentient being would keep themselves from being covered in ash. cloaks, goggles/visors, etc. we're gonna get some beautiful costume design, not just niggatars
