Endgame definitely only works as a film because of the 10 years of buildup and hype leading up to it. It just doesn’t hold up on its own at all .
You really need that decade worth of MCU knowledge for the movie to really make you feel something

The biggest moments in the film heavily rely on fan service, and they work because the MCU spent time building up to them. You’re supposed to cheer and clap during those moments, and that’s what makes Endgame work, knowing that it’s a love letter to MCU fans and 10 years of hype . And you can tell that the film is very much aware that it is a big event

Literally all of the criticisms you could levy at Endgame apply to Infinity War as well, y’all just prefer Infinity War because there’s more action and it’s more entertaining

If the argument was just “the action is better and there’s more of it” I wouldn’t even argue with that, but all of these points about Endgame not being a film and relying on fan service too much and acting like Infinity War doesn’t also suffer from these same criticisms is just straight up incorrect

Do you need previous context before watching Infinity War? Yes of course, that’s not up for debate . But the way Infinity War and Endgame are presented are done in very different ways

The entire presentation of Endgame is based around the fact that it’s a conclusion to a decade long story. And the film expects you to have seen every single film that the MCU released within those 10 years, and that’s why its biggest moments are effective.

“Avengers Assemble” hits because the Russos know that fans have waited a decade for Steve to say it.
Steve holding the hammer hits because fans have debated for years if Steve really was worthy to hold it

That first Endgame watch in theaters hit lick crack, but in retrospect it’s very obvious that the film is meant for MCU fans to jump around and yell and cheer at a theater screen .

Infinity War’s story just feels more compelling, heavier, and better executed

Infinity War is quite literally also presented as the culmination of a 10-year narrative arc

Endgame having huge moments does not make it a lesser movie

It’s obvious Marvel loves Iman, and wants to keep her around.
But you can tell that they just don’t know what to do with her character at the moment after Kang Dynasty was scrapped and The Marvels flopped

I think they should include her in the X-Men films
