sorry to hear you didnt like it but i hear what you're saying. i didn't like JIK myself but my gripe had nothing to do with the gospel sound he was going for. I loved the Sunday Services and when i watched them perform songs that ended up on album they sounded so gorgeous and massive compared to what we actually got. that was my beef with JIK. it just fell short and felt flat and unfinished to me. some of the ideas Kanye had during that era musically are some of the best ever in his career (imo) but he just didnt land the execution of them all.

as for this current song, i could see why people could disappointed and feel that he's regressing going back to a Yeezus-era sound. but given how this song is still heavy on religious lyrics, it feels like this is the only time he could have released it and he does it with a focus i don't feel like i've seen from Ye in a while.

that and the raw aggression in the lyrics, beat and the content of the music video. it just comes across as very powerful to me releasing it at this moment.
