That’s not it. It’s the intentional references to the same period of history for a specific subgroup within the African-American’s history. It’s insulting to us.

Conservatives get tired of this because there’s so much in the history of the country to pull from. African American’s history in the country IS American history. Its full of resilience and doesn’t end in freedom. They (I’m AA btw) contributed to the country’s economic, social, cultural, and political progress since the 17th century. And it goes without saying, that they contributed significantly to the country’s growth since emancipation.

On the other side, Democrats are obsessed with bringing up a specific period of African American’s history (slavery, segregation, Jim Crow) not because they’re looking for answers to solve present problems, but for political expediency. For any African American (My AA family can trace their lineage in America for 250+ years) federal highlights like Juneteenth should be a slap in the face and for every other American they should look for other rich, more productive contributions of AA’s in American history and champion those events and those days.

If we are united in doing that, then we can move forward together, not constantly bicker like Banks, about problems from the past. Although Candace sounds harsh she’s actually trying to shed a positive light on the progress of African Americans in the the United States. This is something we most likely all agree with.

the US has done absolutely nothing to better the condition of former slaves other than the bare minimum if we wanna be real

economic divisions stemming from the jim crow era still exist, there’s overwhelming racist sentiment, and iver policing of black communities has lead to massive incarceration rates and false imprisonments for crimes that would receive a slap on the wrist if it was white folks

material improvement should be a priority over useless holidays that don’t even give private workers a day off
