So it sound like to you a rappers sole purpose should be to make deep complex think pieces created to be thought provoking or profound over traditional maximalist rap production

You ever consider that being entertaining and creating light hearted vibes for the people to enjoy and make memories to are equally important and valid expressions of the art form? Or you ever consider the fact that an ARTIST (no different from a painter just a different medium which is music) just experimenting and having fun in the creative process is also a thing?

Nah I bet you haven’t because you have a narrow/ridged perspective on what “real rap” is supposed to sound like and you deem everything else as trash. The unfortunate part is that people like you actually get jobs as journalists and media personalities so they influence their audiences to have a similarly rigid inflexible mindset.

Good post, all sides need more nuance

Same goes for the people who call Kendrick’s usual stuff “critic bait” or “scaring the hoes” or hate on everything that can’t be played “outside”. Both sides of that extreme are dumb as s***
