That’s the vibes it reminds me of and Stanley parable . I’m kind of confused of how this creepy pasta took off
Backrooms?
Also, this movie implied that the reason the "main part" of the backrooms looks like that is because it's feeding off of Clark's architect mind/sketches , right?
Man i’m happy I bought my ticket early, all showings for tonight / tomorrow are pretty much booked out except for the very front seats

The entire (modern) internet zeitgeist is kinda just trickle down from 4chan when you think about it
That one post just inspired a lot of talking/posting, leading to the video and all the fan games and s***, leading to this
Crazy

Yup how I interpreted it too
Especially seeing it at the start through someone else’s eyes
Not scary or interesting whatsoever, another white internet nerd concept that wasn’t that interesting to begin with
Obsession is doing what this movie thought it was gonna do

It’s crazy to see a hate or love it horror movie
Correct
I see it as there’s 2 creepypastas: image based and narrative based
The former are more exercised and gripping - see: Slenderman, The Rake and even the Russian Sleep - than the latter - see: What Happened To The Disappearing Town, I Think My Grandpa Might Be a Serial Killer, The Puppetmaster’s Regime
Because the imagine to backstory pipeline is already primed for cinema, it becomes more memorable and easy to add on to (hence being more pastable)
The narrative ones are better but then you gotta read like 5 pages
Edit: A***ogue Horror is the closest marriage of the 2 so I’m not surprised it’s been popping off
In hindsight, a zoomer trying their hand at a film based on the popular genre of posts about “liminal spaces” was inevitable. People really f***ing like those images and they do hit in a way that hasn’t really been tested in the medium of film before. When I saw that it was literally going to be based on the 4chan greentext screenshot that kicked off the aesthetic, I was skeptical.
But I ended up really enjoying this. Being in the backrooms and seeing the weirdness was just fun.
I think he ruined a lot by showing the thing. He broke the biggest rule, the viewers own imagination is far more terrifying than anything you can show them.
the entire thing of there being this team of scientists researching and monitoring the backrooms was a totally unforced error on the writers part , who otherwise was doing a good job finding the sweet spot of not over explaining

as much as I love Obsession for the thrill ride that it is, this film sounds like it's pushing the genre forward a lot more. But, I haven't seen it yet.
all due respect, very well made movie on the technical side but i was absolutely bored out of my mind

This don’t even make sense when the concept for both are completely different

Async is an integral part of the lore. Maneuvering them in the story especially with it taking place a month after the last event (there’s some caveats to that) in the main story was a given. You can be critical of how they were delivered in this isolated narrative and I have some qualms myself but they were going to be in this.
Not having them in would have pissed off web series fans to some extent
