Genuinely one of the stupidest things to say a guy who’s dedicated 5 years of his life towards this concept couldn’t have directed this movie

Theres just been a wave of viral TikTok’s and tweets saying they don’t buy in a million years that a 20 year old kid can direct a feature length movie with no experience on movie sets, know how to instruct actors, know how to meet all the demands a movie requires etc. seems a bit haterish.

So people have looked at the producers and are further speculating if any of them were on set doing the heavy lifting.

The film looks fire but it doesn’t look THAT crazy of a production. I think he directed it 100%. He has an expert level DOP, world class set decoration and building people, top of the industry horror production houses helping him out on a world he invented. It isn’t really that far fetched

    Who said that? lol

    Some nobody

Mark Duplass shut that s*** down and said he was invited to join the project bc the studio thought he might be helpful with mentoring and stuff but once he got to set he realized Kane didn't need any help and was 100 percent in control of the directing and all that

Reviews are coming out. No surprise that some reviews are looking divisive . The main critique I’m seeing is the the plot is a little thin and not much is answered, but imo that’s the point of the Backrooms.

I think the RT score will settle in the low 80s

  • O wait the score went up to 92%

  • Basically it seems like Kane didn’t try to dilute his vision to appeal to general audiences. This film will very much feel like his YouTube series, and your enjoyment of this film could depend on how much you love those slow burn and vague vibes

  • I remember finding Kane thru his
3d Attack on Titan shorts a few years ago and then looking back even further and seeing he was directing short films in his room/ around his town and he had to be at least 13/14 then.

Crazy proud to see him get this far

Yeah I thought the original film was the perfect length to launch a universe. It's kinda hard to build out a full length movie unless you build more levels and monsters

    Pulse for sure

    Top 3 horror movie ever

After that, I recommend Cure (arguably even better) and Retribution

I feel watching this is going to make me want to give exit 8 another chance .

  • May 27

Some are just obsessed with “ omg I saw his YouTube shorts and I was on 4chan he is really 20” . I want a movie lol . Exit 8 was also a weird concept which I’m in for glad it got a bit budget . Star power feels unnecessary but a24 needed a hook so I get it
