Really hope kendrick can reach 95/100 on metacritic again with his next album.

But with DAMN and TPAB, he's definitely on his way for the three peat. Too bad he dropped gkmc after s80, that was a flawless run.

nah gkmc is still a really good album, even though its his worst project, it's still better than what his peers are doing.

Damn where is my support. Y’all really finna let these lyrical miracle niggas get away with this blasphemy ??

Tpab Gkmc are kendricks only classics

There's no blasphemy, you can disagree if you want, but a fact remains a fact.

    Nice try.

If one of them has to not be a classic, that would be gkmc.

damn is literally the 2nd highest rated rap album in music history, just after TPAB, first non-jazz/classical album to win the prestigious Pulitzer, whew, all of that while being close to 5x platinum

  • Feb 13, 2020

tpab is definitely his most important classic, followed by DAMN, and then gkmc comes last.

Gkmc isn't even a top 3 kendrick album from a quality angle
it's not his best rated album
nowhere near his most impactful album, or most influential
didn't win s***, not close to winning a pulitizer.

Like Common and Joe Budden said, kendrick has 4 classics. Not all of them on the same level though

    facts.

Backseat Freestyle sounds like a track everybody on this forum can write. Kendrick is the goat, but you can tell he was really rapping from the perspective of a 12 yo. His cheapest bars ever are on this track

But it's a nice thing Kendrick fans never gave him a pass for this song.

At the time, I swear backseat freestyle was one of the first songs people heard from gkmc. When he dropped the song people were trashing it. Then gkmc dropped and the songs placement on the album made sense. For him to be able to go from this kid wit a good album to this f***ing artist Is f***ing crazy. It’s just kendrick on that raw s***. He sounds hungry on it and the hook is f***ing catchy, also the second verse is insane. Your minimizing its impact. Humble on the other hand didn’t meet the hype. Only reason it popped off is cuz s*** was trendy. DAMN had some good moments (Fear, element, xxx) but none of them come close to how raw backseat freestyle is. Don’t let the fact he’s rapping as his younger self fool you.

ain't letting that fool me. It's an ok track at best

DAMN is a near perfect album, and quite possibly the greatest black rock influenced rap album we've ever heard (black rock =/= rock, it's actually a kind of very accessible soul LA artists were making in the 70s,), TPAB is a perfect album, gkmc had some good moments but none of these moments come close to most of the flawless tracks on his 2 most recent albums. With all bias aside, Every single track from Tpab/DAMN is probably much better than BF.

And Backseat isn't even a highlight on the album, from a pure objective angle. You can enjoy if you want, it will still remains a low.

edit: Lmfao, Humble met the hype, it's a diamond single and his most hyped track to perform live...also the most requested song @ his shows. Humble s***s on most of gkmc (didn't say I enjoy the track more, I said it was better, see the difference...). It popped off because it is INCREDIBLE and not because it is trendy, he literally rapped over what we consider an SMB beat, that was trendy in 2004. You think it's a coincidence if people that don't know s*** about music are ok with this track and if people with vast musical knowledge say it is kendrick's worst song ever?

It's cool if you like kendrick on that raw s***, cool story, but at the end of the day, it's just you talking about your personal preferences, your subjective taste...I'm talking about quality here. Something that bangs doesn't equate being good, being on that raw s*** =/= good,...if we're talking quality, this track is mediocre

For good reasons...it's an ok track for casual listeners or people that don't know anything about music, but kendrick is much better than that. Matter of fact, it wouldn't even make it on a list of top 50 kendrick songs.

it's an ok track for casual listeners or people that don't know anything about music

    Yea, f*** this thread

He isn't wrong though, I know tripstarr used to be a music lecturer and currently is a music producer, he probably knows rap music better than most folks on here.

And what he said is true, that track was made for casual fans, not music lovers.

I’ll agree tpab might be the superior album. Songs like wesleys theory prove that, but where you and me will ever see eye to eye is saying damn.> bf or gkmc In general. Sorry

the only kendrick track that I skip.

Crazy how much he has evolved, hes now a much better rapper and artist. Congrats to him

tbh Dude discography is insane, the fact you can have the argument gkmc is his weakest cd kinda proves how amazing he is.

  • Feb 14, 2020

The main point of the track in the context of the album is that he's a kid (teenager) just f***ing around to a beat tape in the car with his homies. His lyrics aren't bad by any means but they're intentionally on a lower level than all his other songs

The funny part is that it's pretty much on par with the average rapper's skills which is probably why some people can't realize that
