Madlib makes a lot of beats so who knows how many of those beats actually landed on the album or were finished cuz... that was back in 2010 when NMPILA was made and sometime in 2015-2016 when Lib went to Kardashians house to work on s*** (receipt- last Madlib Ebro interview...Ebro get off Kanye's d*** btw!)
So in conclusion Ye was not feeling the beats (different from not liking the beats...plus we know Ye wouldn't regularly flow over intense Madlib beats or he would just go off beat like NMPILA...which does not suck like everyone says...just listen to Fred if you are a*** about rapping off beat)
Who knows how many of those beats Ye heard actually landed on Bandana! Probs like only one...with Madlib no one knows. Not to mention the samples would have to be cleared...good luck with that

In the interview Lib said it kinda off handedly...i don't want to get deep into human social cues or anything, but the way Lib says things sometimes are very off the cuff and brief, which implies maybe he isn't telling the full story cuz he is very subdued
I'll give you that on the beat side Bandana was being worked on even before Piñata released. Your probs right about the beats.
But yea, we know Ye was not gonna rap on Madlib beats...we are lucky we got NMPILA. It is just not his style or preference.
