I been thinking about this. I think dudes like him (and a lot of others on Dreamville especially) don’t really understand what they’re trying to do
The idea of being a rapper that caters to the mainstream with hits AND has more serious “real hip hop” underground type stuff is dead. There will never be something like GKMC again. There’s never gonna be another “big 3” type rapper that blows up
Everything is about what scene your in. Bas definitely falls more into the underground scene, He’s more of a “lyrical” type of guy. I just feel like there’s no point in trying to make songs that appeal to the mainstream when you could just focus on the scene you really belong in and make a killing. Underground fans don’t wanna hear dudes try to make hits and casual music fans don’t give a f*** about “real hip hop” type s*** now
It’s why people hate westside gunns last album, It’s why people say Conway fell off. None of the fans wanna hear them make mainstream music and use trap beats
I personally hate this and miss when albums had more variety like GKMC but it is what it is
idk but cole give this nigga some of his best verses. and that’s saying a lot cus cole never slack on a feature but he still finds a way to outdo himself on Bas songs

They have amazing chemistry. Bas gotta inspire him in some type of way
I respect him as a man. But his music is boring to me.

That along with Bas being the brother of Ib (Cole’s manager and the president of Dreamville) lol

I feel it was too soon for him to switch it up like this, he could have had a track or two dedicated to this. Guys reason and the dreamville are In a awkward place rn in rap, f*** even guys like Jay Rock and them. I just feel like I don't need too many other sounds to distract from what I actually want to get from you as a listener

Nah Bas doesn’t give off Underground artist. At all. He’s more in the Isaiah Rashad field; all that’s missing is the personality and his New York City background.
Isaiah does a great thing where he gives you a vibe, throws in some Tennessee aesthetics, and hits you with some lyrics. I feel like Bas has some bars and a nice house / hip-hop fusion vibe shown brilliantly on Too High Riot and his other projects, but doesn’t have the NYC, or storytelling, or character to accompany the vibe. So it sounds awkward and boring when he tries anything outside that vibe.
