Man I really appreciate you @op

I love music so much but hip hop will always have my heart since it is so critical to my foundation

Earlier this week I was hot because it seems like a lot of people - including friends of mine that I know that are always talking music - just throw hip hop away after a certain age or a few years of listening

It's dead, nothing exciting etc without any larger conversation about the things impacting the people making the music (ie hip hop having a large social component and covid really impacting that for a while, black people stateside being devastated in general by covid etc)

On top of that the conversation of the actual music and artists never goes beyond what's at the surface but for basically any other genre they'll dig through every digital crate and search and ponder but won't give even a percentage of the same effort for hip hop

    So nasty to me

But you're always up and excited and showing me and others so many new artists and scenes and helping some of these artists get more looks too, I love it

So thank you for that and thank you for all of your genuine excitement and passion for music overall

    Hell nah

That's the worst part about it, these are people that are otherwise really cool and varied in their interests

But yeah something about how they/people can casually discard hip hop makes me really queasy

Makes me feel like they were always tourists and never truly valued the music and the culture associated with it

Seeing you slowly build this for yourself is really inspiring

I don't know what I'll do but I know it's gonna be off the beaten path and something I'll have to concoct and that usually has me really shaken and down on my future but..

if beflygelt can do it I can to

@op a close friend of mine is living in Kaiserslautern for school right now and he's looking for things to do - he loves music, art, anything off the usual path (I'm almost certain there's nothing too weird for him)

If he stays in Germany he plans to move to Berlin but for now he's stuck in Kaiserslautern and places he can get to via regional trains

If there's anything you can think of that I could throw his way I'd appreciate it greatly

oh damn he's kind of around near me actually (mostly in Mainz/Darmstadt atm), I'm sorry for that ☠️ I find it v hard out here finding anything off the beaten path ngl

saw Alchemist in Alte Feuerwache in Mannheim, Swans in Heidelberg once.. in Frankfurt there's Mousonturm, Tanzhaus West and Zoom, Offenbach got Hafen2. you occasionally get some cool bookings there but ngl the interesting stuff is few and far in between... only current plan I have is Bar Italia in Tanzhaus West in May. Mainz even closed its last indie cinema the other day. It's grim.

I only rly get my culture fixes in Netherlands and Berlin tbh, sometimes Köln. Atm most excited for Rewire Fest in Den Haag in a few weeks.
