I see a lot of (and not just on ktt but other music sites as well) misplaced praise for hip-hop albums that take more influence from, say, dad rock and edm than hip-hop or soul/r&b
These same fans will call hip-hop music with roots in r&b and soul "generic" or trash even when it has substance
And I get it. A lot of yall didn't start listening to rap until it incorporated traditionally "white" music, so that's what you relate to
They think non-white people aren't capable of artistic introspection or having refined taste in music.
worse is when people who aren’t comfortable with liking trap music start saying s*** like “carti is making shoegaze”
Miss when rap was only in the hood tbh
rap has been at least somewhat suburban since the 90’s the 2000’s emo/punk wave just f***ed with perceptions

To be fair tho alot of trap influenced s*** with no lyrics and no meaning is just disposable music that doesn't last
I don't get it
Fantano always d***rides rappers that use weird eclectic electronic beats
But rarely ever gives an R&B album more than a 7/10

Idk 😐.
Nigga really be feeling that s*** .
Sometimes it’s a relatability thing

it doesn’t mean that it isn’t valid to draw parallels between shoegaze and what cartis doing within the context of hiphop

Wen I was a kid he use to f*** w my opinions way too much .
Dat nigga dead a melon head white Boy what make him so spexial
That's the thing with Hip Hop being the number one consumed Genre
You have to let White People become consumers, which gives them a right to voice their opinion about the music, whether it's valid or not.
OP is 100% right, but that's the downside to Hip Hop's rate of consumption level and profitability in music today.
You forgetting a lot of KTT posters are just Hip-Hop “fans” it’s just another music genre to them, probably not even their favorite one
It’s different when you are raised in Hip Hop culture

When the last time he even listened to an R&B album?

Rocky’s best song^
When the last time he even listened to an R&B album?
I don't follow him like that but whenever he reviews a new R&B album he gives it a mid rating
I always think to myself, man you can just stop reviewing that type of music it's not for you

This tweet perfectly captures that
