Doctors are literally retiring and illegally leaving paitients in genuine need cold turkey because of the extreme threat of them going to PRISON by new medical restricts and extreme over course correction. Even doctors that are literally licensed, trianed and their whole practice is built for.
Just because of others - loosey goosey doctors and people that abused it. Nice job. One extreme to the other the good ol American tradition.
Now theyre recommending unnecessary suregeries (that dont even fix the overall health issue) and faux medical methods just to get patients off their back.
Like for example: paitents that have swollen throat issues (these d**** are also for physical related things not just mental - mainly muscle related) and need diazapens to lossen it to breathe, eat and/or talk for long periods etc. are now being forced to get off (which leads to withdrawl too) and get a surgery for a FEEDING TUBE that doesnt even fix the throat issue and causes other problems - and its bullshit since in USA medical, if there is a medicine you can take to avoid surgery then you are SUPPOSE TO HAVE IT. Surgery is suppose to be a last ditch effort - not the first option or a f***ing bandaid
Had to come off Klonopin once after taking it for a year. Felt like I was on dust trip for a month The dissociative feelings from withdrawal had me and my environment feeling alien.
I still take it as needed, it's saved my ass from extreme panic attacks and s***, but it's WOAT to take every day

I've had a a couple close calls with benzos when I was younger. I can also think of a couple times that they've saved my life. Any doctor who forces someone to cold turkey benzos should be sued for medical malpractice. My dad is a psychiatrist and he's pretty strict/conservative when it comes to prescribing things, but even he's still reasonable and there are plenty of patients who he prescribes benzos because they wouldn't be able to function without them.
congrats on getting off them
i really struggle with benzo abuse at times, and when i don't i feel i inevitabaly fall back in the pattern
but im getting better
how fast did you taper down and from what dose @op
The last time I took them I went from .5mg to 2.0mg over the span of a month. During that time of taking them I never experienced the therapeutic relief I had in the past. I incrementally increased my dosage over the month hoping to get some relief that never came.
I didn't taper down. I think that's part of the reason while I'm still having issues now. I was sober for a year before I took Benzos again. It was something I really thought about before I did it. Even though I was a year sober, I was already into Post withdrawal syndrome with out knowing it. I was having severe sleep issues and I couldn't figure out why. Around that time I fell into a fire and suffered third degree burns to my arm and face. I reached a point where I needed to sleep and I genuinely thought I was choosing the lesser of 2 evils by choosing to take X**** to help with sleep. I didn't know that even though I was a year out from taking X**** my body had already developed tolerance. So not only did I have a paradoxical reaction from reinstating X**** but I was also recovering from significant injuries sustained by falling in the fire. S*** truly was a living hell. I've been through a lot but that experience broke me.
I go back and forth on wether or not I should have tapered. Ultimately I think I would have made the same decision because I no longer want to be a slave to anything in my life so I made the choice I made. There's a website called benzobuddies.com that has a forum. There are a lot of good people there who can help you out with the tapering process and give their perspective.
Yeah its a tricky needle to thread, hard to tell when helping me turns into hurting me. And I’m on the lowest dose possible
If you could I would get off. You never know when your body develops tolerance. Once it does the medication stops working and you need it to feel a semblance of normal. I've seen it happen too many times even on small doses where people develop tolerance and get thrown into the pits of hell. Not saying it to scare you but it's an unnecessary risk and I can almost promise anything you're dealing with is a walk in the park compared to what withdrawal and BIND feels like.
Going through this has made my worst hang overs and come downs look like child's play.
They went from one extreme of giving anyone a prescription to now the extreme of this yeat that literally no one gets it even if youre suggested and with a specialist I hate the medical fda
I think the liberal prescribing of Benzos has always been an issue. It's been a minute since I've looked into it but if I remember correctly these companies are well aware of the problems this class of d**** causes. Even going back to 60's when they were advertised it a as a cure all pill to stay at home moms people were having issues. To circumvent the legality and bad press, companies repackaged the medicine under different brand names etc.
