IDK if the best term is mentally unstable. I think BEST artists = having crazy issues would be better

in the world of major label bs and artists as celebrities, you have to sell a story. some ppl just have more interesting stories. i don't think it makes ppl more talented. Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker and Frank Ocean don't need mental instability to make great art. but i think one thing that supports your point is that when someone is really hurting you can usually feel it more in their art.
