im thinking about moving to atlanta from florida because florida is dead as f*** for music, even miami. what other cities do you guys recommend? how about chicago and philadelphia? atlanta seems like the best possible choice in terms of affordability and the barrier to entry, seems like you can get into the industry pretty easily there as opposed to like LA or NYC

LA. seems like a must at least for a certain period of time if you're a creative.

i don’t think that’s nearly as true as it used to be tbh. i think both nyc and la are losing that monopoly

im definitely in a position where i can travel to both if need be though.

well yea, you can make it in any big city if you try hard enough and are skilled enough lol. but i think LA has most opportunity to make connections in the creative space.

dont listen to me though, just sourcing from some of my pals.

either way atl seems to be a better place to actually get started, easier to break in to the industry and then once you’re in you go to LA or NYC as needed. that’s mostly what i hear especially out here

even joni mitchell had to leave saskatoon to find any success so I don’t think so 💀

LA / NYC both still the biggest markets high key tbh. But in my opinion LA is more film industry. Most of my friends out there work in the film industry to some capacity. Most of my friends here in NY are music oriented.

NYC always got some open mic or indie show going on at the weekends if I'm being real with you, plus my friends out here be making mad random connects in the indie scene. One of my homies was doing s*** for Boldy James and guys like that.

Another one was interning at Hot 97, which led to him getting mad record label work and now he works at Empire managing a lot of Drill artists out here.

I can't speak on ATL but from what I understand they support they own heavy

Obviously it’s not required if you can establish a formidable online presence but that requires an intense amount of talent and labor

I feel like ATL is only worth it if you already know someone from there

Yup. People are uploading songs to streaming services every day, s*** kinda oversaturated plus a lot of upcoming artists don't have a marketing plan outside of spamming links

    New York definitely

Very short distances of travel means people don’t have to dedicate immense resources to meet small artists, whether as a collaborator or as an audience member

yea im spitballing here lmao. la and nyc just seem like obvious options due to sheer number of opportunities but ATL prolly cheaper and is active in both entertainment and music industries so who knows

the film industry in atl is growing like crazy and of course it’s always been a music city yeah

  • i got a buddy who does photo/video for music acts in ATL, he loves it.

another buddy who produces out in LA, loves LA, but still recognizes industry is cut throat and hard to break through in.

lastly, one friend who does EDM/house music who has stayed in NJ/NY with aspirations of going out to LA. not sure its materialized though.

so seems like you can make it anywhere OP

nah it’s so easy to meet people out here. i didn’t know anybody and i have already met people some in person but a lot over dating apps of all things. that’s another huge advantage of ATL, people are waaaaay friendlier and supportive of their own. that’s why my plan always was to break in here and go to other cities as needed

miami which is where im from everyone is so s***ty and there is literally no music scene to speak of. the soundcloud scene is dead, and it’s a city by millionaires for millionaires and if you’re not a millionaire you’re f***ed

NY is random as f*** yo. Being from here you kinda just get used to certain s***.

Like my grandma knew LL Cool J's grandma back in the 90s, she used to take care of her (RIP to both)

I randomly saw Frank Ocean biking through Soho a few summers ago.

Talked about this before but Kid Cudi threw a party out here and I went with my friends and I met ASAP Ferg and some of the mob, the current UFC Champion Aljo Sterling, Tobey Maguire, Logan Paul, Lil Nas X, Meek Mill, Fivio Foreign and so many more in the same night.

I met Trinidad James at a fashion week party 3 months ago.

Michael B Jordan was at one of my favorite pizza shops around the time Creed 3 first dropped.

Like you'll really just see random s*** here if you hang around enough
