• classic example imo since Travis music generally gets worse over time for me. he’s an artist w/o much to say which shows on repeated listens, but bruh really understands presentation and vibes. not listing the features was genius. it made each one hit so hard. don’t cap.. you lost your mind when you heard Frank and Drake. the production, transitioning and sequences all perfect. even the NAV audio f*** up came off as a funny quirk. after first listen you couldn’t have convinced me I would barely ever listen to this album. def an experience.

HNDRXX

• partly bc I didn’t know it was coming. FUTURE dropped the week before and while I liked it and love it now, it felt easy for Future at the time. that set up just made HNDRXX sound out of this world as a complete surprise R&B/pop album. imagine hearing FUTURE and thinking that same artist would make Incredible and Fresh Air. 🐐

DESCENDANTS OF CAIN

• ngl not even super familiar w Ka. I think I listened to this bc of a P4K review. I don’t have much to say except it’s just a singular feat. every bar is hard. no wasted space. and every beat sounds like it was sourced from a movie score of some dark noir. none of it is preachy. there’s no moralizing. and it ends with what might be the loveliest song of the year.

WHOLE LOTTA RED

• the album that inspired the thread. for an artist so reliant on vocal performance, giving us a WHOLE NEW VOICE on track 1 was a crazy risk and set the tone for a wildly ambitious project and a rollercoaster of a first listen. I was already tipsy to start. I was fully drunk by the time Stop Breathing ended. another thing is that it was kinda wild to clearly understand everything he was saying lyrically. dropping on Xmas and Iggy immediately confirming that Carti was living like a rockstar just made it even better.
