Chikorita is hated cus she’s not good competitively. Pretty much the only reason

But she’s cute and has a good design so that’s all that matters

I've never played Pokémon multiplayer and I just never f***ed with Chikorita Doesn't have a type advantage in most of the Johto gyms and actually has a disadvantage in the first two, easily the worst compared to the other two starters and Ash's one was kinda a b**** ( the show played a role in my perception of Pokémon as a kid)

Grass starters almost always the worst one tho
