At least Thom and the boys are trying to grow and be diverse. The amount of musical range and quality on AMSP alone is enough to even sit this decade out entirely.

it is a comfort zone I agree, but I don't think it makes them predictable or leads them to play things safe. no one wants to hear them do a "let's get the band back together" type shtick.
thats kind of why I love the artistic evolution that is TKOL, because it shows evolution in the members that leads to a new direction for the band, rather than creating a new direction just for the sake of being subversive. you should read ed's blog posts around 09/'10 if you haven't its super interesting.

but at the end of the day if it ain’t exciting to listen to, it doesn’t really matter to me what is done
