No Vaseline had 0 impact outside of Nerds who couldn't stop listening to hip hop at the time.

It gets a pass because the majority of hip hop wasn't mainstream so the few that were invested obviously thought Ice Cube was the s***.

By the Mid 90s hip hop was a lot more mainstream thanks to battle rap and the style influenced by Nas.

Ice Cube became a Hollywood actor just a couple years after his gangsta rap diss track. He went on to star in Critically Acclaimed movies like Barbershop and Barbershop 2. Unfortunately , anybody who was anybody hadn't taken him serious in over 8 years at that point. Today, Ice Cube is a family man. He likes to Kayak on the weekends and he's really fond of cubically-cut ham sandwiches.

No i'm serious lmao. I'm from Memphis. The only thing we took serious at the time was 3-6 Mafia and anything that came out locally.

The rest of what was fed to us (idk about you but i come from a Hip Hop city) Was MTV bullshit. We loved Outkast though and believe me even then, people understood mainstream was feeding the trash. Ice Cube, his lyrics, his sound, was elementary to us.

naw y'all just aint with it. Dude had 2 classics and sustained a musical career thru the 90s. Y'all are letting 2001 til now skew your perception of him.

If you're talking best rapper out of the 90s than keep it 90s. Dudes talking about Barbershop and s***. That's 2002.

Being as objective as possible, Cube is for sure a great 90s rapper.
