    hard to pick single highlight for Zappa since Absolutely Free is basically all a big step forward for albums in the more "progressive" rock format with suites etc. maybe Brown Shoes Don't make It even tho i don't uphold it as a career highlight like some do. a few of the parts are annoying

    im not an expert on '67 Dead but this is generally agreed to be one of the top performances of their early set centerpiece Viola Lee Blues (their first big jam vehicle)

    and some good but embryonic versions later in the year that would be much more fleshed out in 68-69. the Anthem of the Sun songs

    they were good but '68 is the real year where they ascended higher and surpassed Jefferson Airplane as best San Francisco band. also the year where they became overwhelmingly psychedelic instead of just a bluesy band on acid. there arent really a ton of good quality recordings from '67 either and the setlists were not that diverse

    ah yeah i know that first one pretty good noodling tbh

    second one new to me but also not bad

    there are enough interesting moments on Freak Out and Were Only In It for me to keep them around but yeah that album got deleted eons ago
