Gotta consider the singles as well
Your Mind and Laughing Stock easily could've made the album

recorded in january 1968
Oh good

Post your rank
@twinkletoez Norman Whitfield gets credit for pioneering psychedelic soul but HDH beat him to the punch tbh
also Hendrix but for Motown this is the first one.
Also Dianas got insane charisma when shes not doing that weird smile/sing thing :ohno:

Levi Stubbs
the only lead singer that didnt let Barry Gordy turn it into "Levi Stubbs & The Four Tops" like the rest of the Motown acts did that year even though he was the most cataclysmic singer on the whole roster

@twinkletoez great song (devastating when you know the backstory) but also feel like its set the mold for the "too smooth, imo" soul that dominated the next decade
edit; further research shows this was recorded with LA session men and not in Detroit wth the Funk Brothers and his usual right hand man Marv
f***ing knew it

luckily he didnt fully sell out
this was the year Dylan called him "Americas greatest living poet"
