U like that Sweet song? Fox on the Run?
jumping way too ahead here but shoutout to Sweet's harder stuff for being some of the best Deep Purple worship
the band still existed
the live performances in late 68 and the first half of 1969 are an essential part of Hendrix story as well as some worthy studio stuff
then why are you only calling Creams run 2.5 years when Live Cream came out in '70 and Fresh Cream came out in '66
i didnt expect you to check all the jazz recs rn, some are pretty long and out there. id just listen to the Aorta one now for sure and then whatever you feel more in the mood for
thoughts on that Kak Triuelogy suite thing? that was my fav from what i remember
im getting claptonesque wah wah vibes

ik youre just being difficult but all i said was a bands lifespan. that s*** was recorded in the lifespan. grateful dead are still on the billboard charts witth new releases in 2023 but youre not counting their lifespan from 1965 to 2023 are you?
cream formed june 11 1966 and disbanded november 26 1968
i dont even stan i just think theyre good and classic

just pretend its hendrixesque wah wah then

nah im genuinely confused how you consider the Experiences run to be longer than Creams
both came out late '66. everything The Experience would release was out by '68 but Cream released Badge in '69. feels like youre gaslight me cause its pretty clear.

yeah its good but i just mean Spiders and T.Rex
for 1969

i have literal hours of Experience material recorded after EL came out
Badge was recorded in October 1968
not to butt in too heavily to y'alls thing but been listening to a lot of santana and dylan this week (well, I'm always listening to dylan)
when it comes to classic tracks i think Evil Ways and Lay Lady Lay definitely merit a mention (although if you want to be super pedantic u could say the former wasnt released as a single until 1970)

ok well were just going to have to chalk it to difference of opinion because imo studio release counts for much more of the legacy than live stuff that didnt even get released officially at the time.
youve turned my Basement Tapes rhetoric around on me
but it doesnt count cause Badge was officially released on time in '69

some of that hendrix stuff got released in like 1971-1972 so not that far off Goodbye release date discrepancy :epic:
point is basically that Hendrix in 1969 is amazing even though thats the gap year in studio releases. post upcoming. my original timeline was arbitrary anyway

that out?
all the good hendrix 1969 stuff isnt on youtube but here is some. @op
2/24/69 might be the closest thing to consensus choice for his peak performance. Estate refuses to release the footage which is one of the final grails for Hendrix fans. best version of rarely performed Little Wing. wish i could post the Room Full of Mirrors, Hear My Train a Comin and Bleeding Heart to offer some newer songs but thats bootleg-only iirc

he was taking some of that classic 1967 Experience material to very different places at this point

and famous star spangled banner

studio stuff:
pretty much the gist of the 'final' version of one of his live mainstays that changed a bit over the years:

earlier version of song that I think he would have kept adjusting and included on the 4th studio album. starts to show a bit more funk influence compared to Electric Ladyland material

early version of the one of the main songs that shows the direction he was trying to go. after Redding left and he was figuring out what to do.

studio version of Message to Love, Band of Gypsys lineup with clear funk influence and soul backing vocals. I don't think this would have ever received a studio release because he included it on Band of Gypsys and it contrasts a bit with the other likely 4th album material. I think he put ones he liked from this era (but was still ready to leave aside) on the official live album but still kept a couple that he was planning to perfect a studio version for

love the bassline on this song, Ronettes on backing vocals. I think this song in some form would have made the 4th studio album.

great and heavy instrumental. its pretty fleshed out tbh but i have no idea what he was planning to do with this if anything. I could see him scrapping together some of this type of studio material to use as part of studio wizardry or revisit and combine with newer ideas for 4th album. or just completely abandoned

really rewarding to dig into a lot of the 1969-1970 Hendrix studio material that he worked hard on and try to piece together where he was headed. He clearly wanted a lot of this stuff to see the light of day on an album or at the very least trying songs out live. There's also a lot of worse material that's basically just him fiddling around trying to figure stuff out, and the greedy estate taking advantage of his excessive recording habits. that's some of the stuff that feels a bit immoral to release.
I think he was heading for a 1971 double studio album with a lot of funk/soul elements, still a few more atmospheric psychedelic excursions but with less wild studio trickery then Electric Ladyland. I think there are also still a few super creative parts that never got made before he died that would have filled out the album, I feel like it was about 70% done.
At first I was underwhelmed by the 4th album stuff and thought it was less ambitious and psychedelic than Electric Ladyland. but there's still a lot of amazing performances and interesting diverse styles. Listening to all of them individually is a lot different than the way he would have been able to masterfully combine them into one statement. would have still been an ambitious album, just more grounded and going down a different path than Electric Ladyland.
