MPB, bossa nova and samba scenes were mostly centered around the urban areas in rio, sao paulo etc. and was the type that also was appealed to international listeners and incorporated western influences (except for samba though)
northeastern styles are more folkloric and there was an entirely different and more insular culture up there. feels kinda a***ogous to American rural south/southwest. in the 1970s there was a northeastern wave where a lot of the northeastern musicians got more popular in other parts of the country and brought in more sounds. Northeastern genres have more indigenous influence and different types of African influence. and they f***ing loved accordions. book I have says the northeast was like a different country in a lot of ways
they had land that looked like this and guys that dressed like this. way different from that iconic samba/carnival and tropical imagery that is known well outside Brazil

album I rec'd isn't some old school backcountry s*** as much though its more the modernization that brings in experimental, psychedelia, even jazz in there

nice yeah I probably lean more towards the northern rural stuff.
checking out War's album and it sounds more like a latin album

yeah i think the mysterious or folky Milton stuff like you like brings in some northeastern influences. or at least seems moreimilar to me compared to the oher MPB guys
but theres a lot of straightforward northeastern music thats just their equivalent of country basically, i havent delved too deep in that. they got like a dozen major genres up there alone it seems

Funky Kingston not hitting
@suzuki
They jacked up the tracklisting on the us release. Funky kingston and in the dark are 10/10 classics no matter the format tho. Saw him 2 years before he died, consider it one of the great priviledges of my life.
@Elric
