So how long do y’all take discussing each year? A week or like monthly?
4 months per year
favourite songs from 66
Bob Dylan - "Visions of Johanna"
Bob Dylan - "Just Like a Woman"
Bob Dylan - Temporary Like Achilles"
Bob Dylan - "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands"
Mothers of Invention - "Any Way the Wind Blows"
Mothers of Invention - "Go Cry on Somebody Else's Shoulder"
The Beatles - "Tomorrow Never Knows"
Rolling Stones - "Paint it Black"
Beach Boys - "I Know There's an Answer"
Beach Boys - "God Only Knows"
Yardbirds - "The Nazz are Blue"
Will try to expand to 20+ for every year after this. There's a few albums with songs I didn't include due to not listening for a while and didn't want to force a larger list. Also, yea, never been a B-Side or non-album singles guy, so I'm completely out of the blue for that kind of stuff
interesting Yardbirds choice

Only listened to the album 3 or 4 times. That's the one I remember the most.

i think '65 was 3-4 months or something
says the sting arrangement fails to accomplish its goal or something the cello is off a quarter metre or something
Aruji the wise speaks the truth
honestly haven't listened to much of the yardbirds at all...just never got around to it good starting point?
you dont need to spread out the marination really cause they burned hotter then out faster than anybody planets aligned then lightening struck for this type of godliness to occur in less than 2 years. inspired nearly as many garage bands at the beedles n stones.

does your incorporation of the bonus tracks factor into how much you love Roger?

almost half the albums highlights there so yeah definitely
the album still has some wild s*** that would give everybody else that year pause tho

maybe im too much of a purist but i could never praise an album based on stuff not on the album. whenever you talk about stanning Roger i'm never thinking that you're also talking about bolero, shapes of things, happenings etc.
definitely gone over this before but yeah i always forget you consider bonus tracks a little different than me. ive always usually formatted them in my library as separate singles but tbh ive started putting them as bonus tracks for albums just out of convenience. but i always make sure to think of them separately
just downloaded all the U2 b-sides i didnt already have and cant be arsed to put them all scattered in my library across different singles, just put as bonus tracks

When was I going out of my way to praise Roger as a singular psychedelic masterpiece album though? You're the one that's been saying I'm saying that but I don't remember the last time I did
Since we're in this thread we're going by year and I give Yardbirds in 66 one of my all-time favorite years anyone ever had so I'm bringing them up

i always thought it was a big favorite of yours. like not an all time goat but regarded it higher than me who just treats it as an 8/10 album. dont you have it on your wall with other psych masterpieces? but could also be just conflating it with general yardbirds stannery

i dont put it on my wall because its not colorful enough for the aesthetic and also its nearly 60 but i do consider it a classic album in general. its not perfect i know.
already said this before but man those examples and that kinks nostalgia is literally the perfect counterpoint to the psych at the time to me, firmly grounded in reality with feet on the ground. Dead End Street absolutely unpsychedelic to me but i could see more of an argument for Big Black Smoke tbh even though its also dark, its trippier to me. Too Much on My Mind slightly so as well. I'm Not Like Everybody Else I can't hear any psych either though
now these guys manages to be completely unpsych and a pretty good counterpoint imo
this one especially
Neil Young's first low-key classic with Springfield
amazing the way the harmonies go from;
"out of my mind....
DAD'N DAD'N DAD'N DAD'N DAD'N DAYAAA"
in the first half to;
"out of my mind...
DADA'N DADA'N DADA'N DADA'N DADA'N DAYAAA"
just as pretty as Beatles or Beach Boys or Kinks @HeyFella
Clapton in '65 when the Yardbirds did For Your Love "im a blues purist peace out pop noobs"
Clapton in '66 after what i assume is some d****;
hypocrite from the jump

the geezers seem to disagree with you
Ok yeah definitely hard nah
The RCA version has so much more movement in the rhythm immediately transports you to a tribal plane at the dawn of time. McGuinns guitar has a dramatically more piercing crystalline tone and does way less pointless noodling. he's more guiding the chaos and the overall effect evokes the formation of a neutron star in infinite expanse by the finale one version is clearly in the top handful most pure and potent psychedelic explosions ever and one version might make my top 50 I listen to the official version for several years before I realized how much better the other one was too so you can't tell me I'm biased this time
Official version just sounds like white nerds jazz noodling with shades on in comparison.

i respect it i guess. glad to have both tho
but i never really noticed this b-side and holy s*** this is some pure pop @rvi @HeyFella sinking in tremendously
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrkGuOBUnjgi should go through more of the Hollies catalog tbh ive only really heard like the main 10 or so hits
