That’s what she has been doing since Selftitled

Basically, you have all these beats, instrumentals, samples, lyrics, demos, etc. and you create the songs by combining different elements. And the album is this big curation work.

This is pretty clear in songs like American Requiem for example. You can tell it’s a mix of various elements that became that song.

Hold Up from Lemonade has some parts written by Father John Misty, a Yeah Yeah Yeahs interpolation, a Soulja Boy interpolation, another old sample from the 60s, some ideas by Ezra Koening, etc. and the final product is a song combining all these elements. These people did not sit together and made the song. Father John Misty, for example, sent her some lyrics and she add it on Hold Up, etc

and this is confirmed by some of her collaborators

No Angel from Selftitled was written by Caroline Polachek but there’s a verse in the middle of the song that was written by James Fauntleroy that she took from another song and added in No Angel

Mine with Drake is a mix of three demos that become this one song. And you can hear that clearly

Travis works like this too. You can see how Astroworld and Utopia are big curation works by him with various beats, lyrics and samples by different collaborators that he put together (he’s the glue 🤓)
