Purple Rain out now
Also T’Challa has been off to a trash start as king between Killmonger and then Thanos came through Wakanda and crushed the buildings
But the white devil tony stark and Capt. American are gone. No one gonna get in his way now
They should’ve got Kendrick to do it again.
I don’t see anyone aside from Kendrick being able to hit those African ass pockets
Nahh you trippin. 'The Gift' flopped hard asab ..but the record is really rich. Most of the production is really fye and I feel Beyonce pushed the enveloped a lot more than Kendrick who basically did an urban contemp.hiphop album w/some mid afrobeat influences. Beyonce really took it there.. Features were all bananas ..wiz kid-Brown Skin Girl, burna boy, tekno miles skated and beyonce surprisingly showed a lotta versatility.. matter or fact, even though i still play BP heavily.. I recognize that it's more of a banger album with a lot of hits and pop elements and features.. The Gift feels more like a project.. credit where it's due..

Black panther is platinum and Grammy nominated.
The gift isn’t even gold lol. No one listened to that s***.
And all the stars is a better movie song than every song on tells gift

The BP album was a good mesh of hip-hop culture and the actual movie. The Weeknd on Pray for me, All the Stars, King’s dead, Black Panther the song etc. The way Kendrick captured the concept of the movie itself and the struggle between Kings from different lands in that album was perfect.
All the stars was my favourite track from 2018. The song, the visuals, SZA, the whole aesthetic of the music video was on point.

My opening line was "the gift flopped hard asab" .. nothing you saying to me is neither addressing or negating any point that I'm making. yo dumb ass ain even listen to the album. commerical success has nothing to do with the breadth and merit of the work and I don't have to stan or be a fan of anyone to objectively recognize musical and artistic superiority in a comparison. Blame it on me being a musician/artist idunno..but f*** public perception especially an institution like the grammys that keeps showing their ass day in and out with the bullshit.. I should slap the black off ya ass for even using them as a goal post. as two music consumers, can we have a discussion about the artists work or not.. know what? nvm, get to the back

Imagine making a soundtrack to a popular movie but the soundtrack doesn’t get heard lol. That’s the point.
One was listened to a million times plus and the other one wasn’t.
I can’t imagine Beyoncé sitting down and thinking let’s get SOB x RBE on this
You don’t have to imagine lol. She did the lion king and it wasn’t good 😂

Beyonce's has more cultural authencity (..shout out to all my yoruban ppl who most had a heart attack during the swahili prayer Otherside')..
Better writing.. "Bigger" (jessie reyez murked that s*** and ima sing it to my daughter)
Better features.. - Burna Boy - Ja ARE E, Wizkid - Brown Skin Girl, Tekno, Tierra Wack - My Power
You finna tell me Tiwa Savage didn't slide on Sza hard on "Keys to the Kingdom"
..nigga do you even listen to afrobeats? Did you even listen to the album?
The opening song, "Bigger" alone
It was a tight-knit, cohesive, colorful little album that got overlooked somehow.. that doesn't change the fact that it's a better project than Kendrick's despite his lack of hits.

..whippey, you ain listen to Beyonce album did you? You ain gotta lie either.
Real afrobeat fans know that The Gift soundtrack was subpar... wish they would’ve got Wizkid & Burna as leads to work on it together

I love Beyoncé and I’m also from the Islands by way of Africa. The music wasn’t good. She did a good job getting the artist but you can tell her contributions much like Kendrick’s was punch ins to already made songs. His music was just better and it showed by how much people listened to the album.
All the starts is the perfect score songs. Nothing the gift could be remotely played as a main song of the movie.

Exactly why attempt afrobeats and get Beyoncé. That’s why I liked black panther more because Kendrick infused west coast and American culture which he has experience in.

It probably got overlooked because it was a big budget album with the quality not being on par with it.
Beyonce got all these afro artists, interlude’s from the actual voice actors etc yet came out with a mediocre album. Why? Because most of the songs dont actually capture the feeling and the concept of the movie.
Writing? Black Panther (the song), King’s Dead, All the Stars. All 3 of those capture the movie better than anything on The Gift.
And yes i do listen to Afrobeats which is why i can say that Beyonce thought putting a bunch of afrobeats artists on a LK soundtrack would actually make it feel ”authentic”
Even Burna boy & Wizkid couldn’t save it
Kendrick had TDE make their own interludes and even narrated on the album himself. Black Panther (the song) sounds like Kendrick is rapping from T’challa’s point of view.
I would deadass, not listen to this s***. I would throw it in the trash and I f/w Beyonce.
That album would be mid as hell
Real afrobeat fans know that The Gift soundtrack was subpar... wish they would’ve got Wizkid & Burna as leads to work on it together

Breh it's mostly western artists/producers making variations of Drake Views level 'afro' influences.. If you listen to The Gift and can't hear how Beyonce's extensive use of african diaspora for themes and musical soundscapes and the musical team and feature behind that whole project is wayyy more authentic to the SOUND. The Ghanian guitars alone is better than a lot of the sterility of the western influences of Kendrick's atmostphere as it pertains to his sounds and arrangements. Better melodies.
Beyoncé, "Bigger"
Beyoncé, "Find Your Way Back (Circle of Life)"
Tekno, Yemi Alade, Mr. Eazi, "Don't Jealous Me"
Burna Boy, "Ja Ara E"
Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, "The Nile"
Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Childish Gambino, "Mood 4 Eva"
Salatiel, Pharrell, Beyoncé, "Water"
Blue Ivy Carter, St. Jhn, Wiz Kid, Beyoncé, "Brown Skin Girl"
Tiwa Savage, Mr. Eazi, "Keys to the Kingdom"
Beyoncé, "Otherside"
Beyoncé, Shatta Wale, "Already"
Tierra Whack, Beyoncé, Busiswa, Yemi Alade, Moonchild Sanelly, "My Power"
070 Shake, Jessie Reyez, "Scar"
there's no getting away from that. I gotta call your bluff breh as a 'real afrobeat fan' .. think about it.. When the hell have you ever heard an authentic

You didn't listen to her album either, huh..one thing I'm noticing is no one actually talking about the content on the album nor addressing any of points I'm making.
"yet came out with a mediocre album. Why? Becuase most of the songs don't actually dont actually capture the feeling and the concept of the movie"

I don't give a f*** if you love Beyonce nigga
"I'm also from the islands by way of african" - you lyin
"much like Kendrick's was punch ins to already made songs" - That doesn't negate anything I said. Beyonce had the better production, better cultural sensitivity and she implemented more musically ambitious ideas including Bigger and Otherside and had way better chemistry w/the features.. Tiwa smoked Sza Burna and Wiz and Kierra smoked Weeknd and Swae Lee.. Tierra ate Jorja's fine ass up, too..
"His music was just better and it showed by how much people listened to the album" - Yea and Views has a higher quality than Blonde because it broke streaming records, outsold it and spawned multiple hits.. commercial succes /= artistic merit, dummy

Stop quoting me. You typing all the incoherent paragraphs about nothing. Lol. And yes everyone know of my ethnicity here. It’s Documented.

Niggas always quick to say you aint listen to the album when you s***ting on it.
How does
Dont Jealous Me
JA ARA E
Brown Skin Girl
Capture the feeling or the concept of TLK?
Beyonce out here singing about lightskin and darkskin women and perms and s***
Nigga simba dont care about lightskin or darkskin women. Neither does he care about perms. Simba aint never seen a human in his life.
Kendrick is rapping about the struggles of King’s from different lands from both T’challa’s and Killmonger’s perspectives. Dude captured the fact that Killmonger came home to someone else ruling his homeland and vice versa.
I listened to the TLK album back when it came out because i like certain afrobeats artists and i aint going back to it. S*** sounded like a Beyonce meets Wizkid collab. Beyonce tried to take as much of ”afro” as he could find to put into the album and relied on the high budget and skits. Take away the skits and i wouldn’t even know it was a Lion King album
Kendrick & TDE created the atmosphere themselves and did it brilliantly.
Spirit & bigger are the only songs i could pass off as TLK songs.
