it simply is anti-democratic to have such a powerful entity be appointed by the executive

How many developed, modern states have their highest judiciary elected by the people?

The US, PRC, Russia, Germany, etc. all appoint their final court of appeals by either the highest state organ (i.e. a Congress), or by their executive.

"other countries do it" is not really an argument. it is inherently anti-democratic to have an unelected body with that much control over the government.

plenty of countries have elected judiciaries.

My point on "other countries do it" is that the majority of countries do it because it makes sense. Why would you put an institution that is specialized on following and interpreting jurisprudence to the hands of the general public who has no idea about anything related to the law?

Building a court of popular opinion is going to lead to a far lower quality final appeal across the board than what we currently have. And it's already s***.

Ehh f*** him for staying in as long as he did, but I definitely don’t mind him bringing this topic/idea to the mainstream since it should be discussed and considered
