We're at a point where we can predict how its going to mutate and create vaccines to treat it consistently. Okay let me explain this like you're a 5 year old.

We have:

A - Polio (WPV1)
B - Polio (WPV2)
C - Polio (WPV3)
D - Chickenpox
E - Swine Influenza
F - Measles
E - Some new flu strain w.e

These are completely separate viruses and had to be "cured" at different times, in different ways. The "flu" is a blanket term for a type of virus which mutates. But every year we get a new vaccine that was developed to "cure" that particular strain. You know why we can't "cure" the common cold? because it's numerous different viruses that mutate even faster then the flu and we would have to have a vaccine for each particular one. It's basically impossible. There is no such thing as a "cure" for a virus, we create a vaccine to prevent a specific virus from re-occurring.
