    yes lol

  • CKL TML

    Drake ran 2016.

    To you

  • Mar 8, 2021

real for puffy in 97, he had 3 number 1 songs that year in a time where that was rare for any artist, let alone a rapper.

Drake def should've been 2016 but Miley was everywhere in 2013 so I get that choice.

Her VMA’s moment was one of the biggest pop culture moments of the decade (not because people liked it but they count controversy). She had two huge songs with We can’t Stop and Wrecking Ball, and other hits with Adore You and 23. The whole release cycle generated a lot of buzz due to her dropping the good girl image and going balls deep in the “this b**** crazy” image.

I think I would’ve given 2013 to JT though. Man had two albums, biggest first week sales of the year, multiple huge songs (suit & tie, holy grail, mirrors), huge tour with Jay Z.

I think Miley won just off the controversy tbh

Which is my point exactly lmao. It was just off her looking like a fool and the controversy. JT sounds more reasonable

Bad came out in August and radio moved slower back then than it does now, maybe that had an impact. But on the year end 87 chart, MJ doesn’t show up until #45 with I Just Can’t Stop Loving you, and Bad at #59.

Figured it would look better on the 88 chart, but not really. Man in the mirror is his highest charting song at 21, with his other appearances at 36 & 61.

While I was looking into this I found an old article that’s interesting: latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1987-11-06-ca-12925-story.html

Mentions that Bad (the song) fell out of the top 10 after five weeks, and IJCSLY set a record for fastest fall from number one. I think history may have been better to the album than the actual time of release was

Holy s*** very interesting they said Bad as a single was a come and go (hard to believe). But still with these stats I don’t think Bon Jovi should have him beat that year. These are still insane numbers but they are downing it because it’s being compared to thriller

Looks like Slippery When Wet (Bon Jovi) was the biggest album of the year by sales, and it spawned multiple hits (living on a prayer, dead or alive, you give love a bad name). Apparently that album was selling a million a week multiple weeks in a row too.

It’s weird because time has basically erased their legacy, I didn’t even realize they were that big until just now lmao. But the stats are impressive for them in 87

Ahhhh man. Yea I know Bon Jovi had a INSANE run that year just off Living Off a Prayer alone. I mean s*** that’s white peoples national anthem. But I didn’t think he was doing better numbers than BAD. It kinda makes sense but yea nostalgia is sorta blinding me and the fact that I wasn’t alive to see it myself. it makes sense tho cause that huge break Mike took too plays a role in it aswell

What Do you mean and love yourself was spinning crazy but let’s not act like drakes rollout from meek diss all the way to summer 16 with controlla & one dance wasnt bigger. I even pulled up the stats man drake beats bieb in it
