But if you look at the experiences of men who have quit p*** and masturbation their lives have changed for the better. There’s websites like YourBrainonPorn that show thousands of testimonials from men on how quitting p*** has improved their lives.

There’s also hundreds of ex-pornstars who have come out to speak against the p*** industry and how exploitative it is, etc. also take into account how many p***stars are abusing d**** and alcohol and how many have died from suicide and overdose. It’s not a big industry either because most of the movies come out of one city yet look at the state of it.

I don’t see how anyone can see p*** as good tbh.

We throwing out the video games too?

A healthy curiosity is normal at a young age yet I understand how seeing things too young can be so damaging. It’s a hard line to walk. Some people turn out f***ed and some people turn out great. I don’t think there’s much we can or should do EXCEPT fixing what’s going on WITHIN the industry. These actors and actresses need fair treatment and it should be overall more monitored.

This is a way larger conversation but p*** is going to exist long after all of us are dead. There’s no use moralizing about it. I want the internet to remain relatively free and industries like that to become safer and less emotionally painful for anyone involved. There’s just as many p***stars that praise the industry and advocate for it. The way we discuss s***and sexuality in this country itself perpetuates these negative feelings surrounding the actual actions. I don’t think p*** is good or bad. It’s like alcohol or gambling or anything else that can be abused.

I agree though I think p*** will always be a thing because it’s human to lust and the need for s***is ingrained in us so if it’s not internet p*** it will be magazines or some other medium. Prostitution is the oldest profession after all.

I do also agree that p*** shouldn’t be banned I want the internet to be as free as possible.

However I will always stand by the belief that p*** is bad for a developing brain I think one can form a healthy relationship with p*** if they discover it later on in life say 18-21 when their brain is more developed but most kids discovered it when they’re 8-12 which is terrible.

no one is saying things are bad because they're different. the problem with this discussion is that it almost comes back to this type of argument equivalent to posturing as if someone is saying "is bashing your skull against a rock good or bad" and then the dichotomy presented in response are "well he wasn't doing it a year ago so it's bad/good" or "well there's nothing intrinsically wrong with bashing your skull against a rock".
You're looking at things too much on a macronomic level for no reason. No one is trying to correlate p*** to things like rate of incest/rate of rape/rate of fertility - these are concepts which are at the behest of tons of factors at once, to try to pinpoint an increase/decrease on p*** would be stupid and clearly biased. What is not clearly biased is pointing out that some behavior clearly has negligent effects on mental health. No one is talking about this in this thread from the angle of being a prude either - hence why there has been a clear separation of "porn" from "masturbation".
Rather than just linking a bunch of studies though, which is stupid because I certainly don't subscribe to the school of thought that linking a study = automatically winning an argument, I'll just say this - the issue with widespread and addictive p*** usage has nothing to do with differentiation of behavior or culture. This is why we're not here arguing about the morality of Cardi B or Megan Thee Stallion's music or something - we're specifically arguing about porn - like children's access to tons of p***, not children's access to media; if I was arguing about culture or "degenerates" or something I would obviously be in line with what you point out as arbitrary - but no one is.
What I'm saying is that the behavior that p*** shapes is not "different", it's actively harmful. Do you think that men dehumanizing women isn't harmful? Like let me give you a great example. Do you think 100 years ago men categorized women as fetishes by alluding them to p*** categories? "Gotta get me a latina/ebony/etc b****" type s*** - viewing women as if they fit in a p*** category you like rather than liking them as an individual? This is just one of possibly hundreds of societal behaviors which is clearly the result of early exposure to p***. I'm sorry but you can't tell me that teenage boys thinking they're entitled to s***if they go through some motions or teenage boys having a perception of reality which is the summation of events relative to p*** isn't harmful. How about body issues from p***? From men seeing massive fake p*** d***s since they're 8 and then developing a complex around it. There are so many bodily intricacies which people never would have even thought of years ago - that s*** is damaging, it's not just a difference.
And the same happening to girls. this isn't just a "oh feel bad for young boys" thing - girls arguably have it worse. They have to deal with body issues or feeling like their sole role is to fulfill a script presented to them to men. And that's not even talking about role s***. Like people thinking certain things are natural or okay because of p*** - like normalization of predatory relationships and young kids thinking it's normal because they've been watching p*** since before their frontal cortex has even half formed to be able to rationalize reality.

I feel you and i’m not just trying to be argumentative. I hope it doesn’t seem that way.

I would just say… I think men have been worse than you imagine throughout history. I’ll admit that I’m old enough to not have had constant, easy access to p*** throughout my childhood and we still (meaning me and my friends) were pretty s***ty, unrealistic, h**** boys who said and thought dumb s*** about girls.

we would go out and say we were looking for ‘snow bunnies’ that night. is that not the same?

my 55 y/o uncle visited me when I still lived in Portland a few years ago, and he was like, ‘so how are the white girls? they’re pretty easy, huh?’ he didn’t need to be part of the p*** generation to comfortably talk about an entire race of women to his nephew that way.

and i don’t think white men needed p*** to aggressively fetishize black women (ebony) or latinx (latinas) women. and white women didn’t need p*** to do the same to black men.

I guess I just feel like everything you’re listing as harmful existed way before p*** and would still exist in the absence of it.
