Didn't see a thread about this so, here...

Since I'm going to an HBCU in the fall, I've thought about the Divine Nine. My mom pledged to a sorority, my dad isn't Greek at all. My parents want me to do nothing with the frats. I understand why (hazing all that stuff) but can't you be "paper"? I've heard stories of guys not having been hazed, some horror stories of guys who did. I don't support hazing at all. I think it's pointless.

Anyone have any experience with the whole Black Greek life? Have friends who shared a few experiences? Just wondering.

edit: Not even pledging/intake process specifically, just (black) greek life in general.

I can’t speak for life at any HBCU’s, but in general, it seems that a lot more people that I talk to have had a good experience with joining a frat

Do people really look at paper vs made seriously? I don't see the point of doing all that crazy stuff (taking wood, beatings, buying them food and stuff with your money, etc) people talk about if the paper guys and girls wear the same letters, same colors, pay the same dues, and sometimes are more involved than the "made/pledged" members themselves.

That's what I've heard too. The black ones are violent and beat you while the white ones are more mental and into drinking and sexual things

they have a stereotype of being nerdy lol

I'm asking cuz this movie terrified me and I was like "I'm never joining a frat" did some digging and found all this stuff to be illegal and in most cases, from what I've heard, over exaggerated.
