"So why did I weep when Trayvon Martin was in the street, when gang-banging make me kill a nigga blacker than me? Hypocrite!"
Sure this has been discussed before and missed it but just curious to see how some feel about this line. Some says its cooning but personality dont see it like that.
philosopher just having a conservation, most of them tend to do that in their work
I see it as him just talking to himself. But I see how some niggas see it as a coon line

I think this dead ass the truth.
the whole album he eviscerates himself.
this line IS kinda cooning. but I think if you’re really from certain environments and have seen certain things, it’s hard not to think this to yourself at least once. he just put it on record.
“why should i care about racism when gang violence exists?” isn’t the great line kendrick was probably hoping it would be
Black on black crime IS often used to deflect from police brutality (blue lives matter mfs love to spout this bullshit)
But kendrick had this to say:
"It's not me pointing at my community; it's me pointing at myself," Lamar says. "I don't talk about these things if I haven't lived them, and I've hurt people in my life."

He didnt say that tho
I think rappers sometimes forget just how many ppl are rlly listening, and how their words can be interpreted in less nuanced ways.

think a lot of the album is a unfiltered convoabout performance for profit as a black man
i think that’s why the critical reception of it, is just as important to a***yze as the work itself imo

I don’t totally agree.
BUT there is a divide btw how people privileged enough to go to liberal arts colleges view this and people who didn’t.
I grew up exclusively around black ppl but i’m still part of the former group and I kinda had to check myself after I heard the full album bc I def didn’t grow up around niggas getting shot... that def affects your perspective.

differences between i single and i “live” version always fire to me, i think it was the best single for him to play around with that dynamic
Off topic
