I definitely get how u feel, ngl I got the same feeling listening. It doesn’t feel like kpop yknow its like a mainstream pop album
but korea did them dirty with KTL so I don’t mind them catering to a more global audience
yeah I kinda felt the same way about TWICE's last mini album and BTS' last couple of comebacks, they're fine for what they are but they don't entirely scratch the itch I wanna get when listening to k-pop.
A lot of people say k-pop is just Western pop but in Korean but there's a v obvious difference in the way they sound imo, I don't know how to describe it entirely but u understand it when u listen to it, y'know? However if I were to show this or BTS' last couple of comebacks to a Westerner I wouldn't entirely blame them for thinking that.
Again tho, it's fine for what it is.

idk if I'd say more "Korean" just more "K-pop" sounding, More&more was quite literally a Zara Larsson throwaway so it makes sense it sounds like it does lol (aka very Western)
anyway my fav TWICE albums are feel special, Twicetagram and fancy you.
&twice is good as well but it's a Japenese album

Thank You, I don't know if that makes sense but Fireworks reminded me of Justified Timberlake
After 2 listens so far it’s quite an enjoyable listen i’m willing to say Pretty Savage is the best song on it (that bit when the guitar comes in
)
I really disliked Ice cream in the beginning but it grew on me so I’d put it above HYLT and Crazy over you (imo this is the weakest song it’s just so formulaic (?)
Love to hate me is another bop that I can’t help but feel like it’s a bit Ariana inspired esp at the chorus. Same goes for the last track sounds like their version of BTS’ stay gold.
Wish it was more songs but tht ain’t surprising
Holy s*** I was hyped for this but I like this so much more than I thought I would
Wasn't a big fan of either of the singles even though HYLT grew on me, but they had me worried the album was gonna be a bit cringy lol. But all the other songs are really good imo, Outro my fav so far. Album will stay in rotation

Being a legitimate Blink and learning about all the s*** the girls have gone thru, that last song hit really different

Haven't even really paid attention to the lyrics yet honestly. But now I'm interested, what did they go through?

Just mad hate. People make all sorts of excuses for their success like them somehow being privileged or being models more than musician. Lisa and Jennie specifically go through personal attacks year round and overall are just faced with toxic s*** on a constant basis. Obviously this is not exclusive to BP as pretty much every Kpop idol has to deal with this, but I love the fact that the girls had the strength to directly address some of their most prominent critiques in the album.

Ah. Yeah I think famous musicians get bombarded with hate in general, if I was one I probably wouldn't use social media too much or at least would never read the comments under my posts, I'd be too fragile to read all that s*** lol.
I heard Lisa gets a lot of s*** in Korea. Feel for her. Why's Jennie being attacked?

Bro Lisa had to stop using this Chinese social media app and her staff updates it now cuz of how much hate she was getting (she’s the only member allowed to promote in China because of the hallyu ban)
And Jennie dated Exo member Kai in 2018 and this Korean news outlet exposed their relationship NYE 2019 and since her YGE contract had a dating prohibition that the girls had been very public about, everyone basically attacked her. A few days later they reportedly broke up. 2018 was a really rough year for Jennie too because since the inception of Blackpink she’s been accused of getting overtly preferential treatment so when she debuted as the first soloist in the group it added even more to the fire. Jennie also sprained her ankle early 2018 but didn’t take any time off touring and instead gave less exciting performances so there was a whole “Jennie is lazy” scandal. Add that to the dating scandal right at the top of 2019 and her image has been kinda damaged ever since.
On top of this like I said before, people attack Blackpink for releasing such little music as if it’s actually up to the girls at all when they release the music. The way they chart so well in comparison to groups to drop music much more often is usually just chalked up to “they’re Big 3” even tho all their competitors are also Big 3 basically lmao (unless I’m off someone correct me if so) so much of their music from this year was focused towards pretty much telling haters to f*** off. Thus the first single being “How You Like That”. Pretty savage imo pun fully intended 🤪

Thanks for the detailed answer! Interesting, didn't know about Jennie's ankle injury. I saw one or two of those "Jennie being lazy for 8 minutes straight" or w/e youtube videos, so that explains that. There was a lot of hate in the comments under those. Plus after that youtube kept recommending videos like that to me for MONTHS, seems like there's tons of those sorts of videos.
Also, a dating prohibition clause in their contracts? YIKES. Shouldn't be allowed, so fkn invasive. Feel for them.
Also, what do you mean with big 3? They're on one of the (apparently) three big kpop labels or what?

No problem! Yeah those videos pretty much created a narrative on Twitter that Jennie couldn’t care less about performing and just cared about being a model.
And yeee just like the US Korea also has their respective Big 3 music labels. YG, SM, and JYP. Big Hit does BTS so they’ve rose to extreme prominence in light of BTS’ global success but they’re not Big 3.

with the language barrier gone it's like a really focus-tested and "corporate" western pop album. like they went through a checklist of mainstream pop mainstays and cliches and made sure to include every one. if that makes sense
Can you please point which TWICE albums are the most korean? I want to check them out.
