I’m a Ridley fan but Blade Runner just doesn’t do much for me. And I love Sci-Fi. I don’t know why, maybe I’ll keep rewatching it and force myself to like it lol
Alien and Gladiator are my 2 favorites from him

Have you seen Alien?
Have you seen Alien?
Yeah I had to watch it back in the day for some elective I had in high school. Thought it was cool overall & I actually got scared a few times lol
Okay I thought it was just me I had to turn it up full blast
Man I’ve watched that movie on 2 different TV’s and just gave up lmaooo. I still haven’t finished that movie
classics.
1>2 only because i felt 2049 built on the concepts 1 explored in rather novel ways such as but what if replicants can have babies.
but 2049 has insane visuals and im a sucker for gosling so.
and ana.
Ana's character was actually a cool idea, heavy her influence i felt.

I’d check out Kingdom of Heaven too if you haven’t seen it. Ridley usually hits home runs with historical epics. Napoleon I’m a little worried about just because he’s 80+ years old now. But Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven are classics.
even with all the dialogue seeming like they were filmed in one take?
everything else? LOVED
Sorry I am just now replying to this but yes.
There is so much going on under the hood of Blade Runner which is phenomenal considering the dialog isn't very good at all.
The story really speaks for itself.
And the fact that it came out in 1982. Since then the themes of what is consciousness and what is humanity have been beaten into the ground in the sci fi world.
Blade Runner 2049, although a very pretty movie and engaging didn't give me anything new to build on.
Shouts out to Roy Batty
This was a "man" who was tired of being treated like a slave so he escaped. He made it all the way up the pyramid to meet his maker only to find out that his own maker was powerless in helping him. But Roy didn't let this harsh reality break him. When the moment came to let Deckard die (The one hunting his kind down) he instead chose to save Deckard. Knowing the true value in life being preserved.
Blade Runner takes place in a dystopian future where humans rely on technology and nature has been worn down to it's end. So what is consciousness if Robots can show more humanity than humans.
Then you get the whole Deckard storyline that 2049 basically retconned for the sake of continuation. Is Deckard a replicant or not? This question is given to add a extra layer for the viewer to ask what is consciousness? How much does it matter if Deckard is or isn't a human? If Deckard is a human then the whole romance between Human and Replicant is a whole other thing. This is a human that isn't very in touch with emotions. His job is to hunt down replicants which isn't very rewarding and he chooses to drink his emotions down. On the other hand is a Replicant longing for human connection after finding out that she is not human herself.
Idk if I’m tripping but The second blade runner is so quiet. Like I can barely hear the dialogue on that film
I had to keep on adjusting the volume because people would either whisper or shout at the top of their lungs
DV took one of the greatest achievements in cinematic history and actually made it better. What an icon
