    "against ... the nuclear family"

someone from woke KTT want to explain? obv the traditional family structure is problematic w respect to women, but shouldn't we still be advocating for two-parent households ?

“ We make our spaces family-friendly and enable parents to fully participate with their children. We dismantle the patriarchal practice that requires mothers to work “double shifts” so that they can mother in private even as they participate in public justice work.

We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.”

This is what they say. It’s basically, as far as I know, a callback to tribal communal-based rearing practices where the phrase ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ comes from. To disrupt isn’t to be against something, but to say that it needs to be emphasized and reconsidered. Which you even allow for by acknowledging that the nuclear family generally produces unbalanced gender power. They definitely do encourage people to consider the potential for alternatives, but nowhere do they say that they’re against two-parent families.

But what’s bait w/o some healthy distortion?

right, i agree that the traditional unit predicated on men being the primary bread winner DID trap women in bad situations.

but as far as i understand nuclear family literally just means two-parent household

It's not just husband/wife. I know the concept is popular with LGBT+ people trapped in abusive circumstances. The nuclear family is parents and dependent children.

Why are only black people allowed to weigh in on a discussion that pertains to gender and the makeup of the family unit? Is this just gatekeeping or is there a unique wrinkle to this that I'm missing

Why is sexual identity specified? I'm not saying they don't matter but when you think BLM you don't think about the need to create safe spaces for gays.

Going back to when Black Lives Matter first became a thing there was a lesser coverage on the killings of black trans men.

If this were by created by three straight men no eyes would blink, but an organization created by lesbians is obviously a shadow attempt to IRREFUTABLY HARM🤬my fragile male ego by decentering me😢😭

Isn’t the whole argument of the OP basically a slightly different version of All Lives Matter?

i grew up in a single parent household and see them as something undesirable in society, not sure how that is bait.

i asked a simple question because i dont read tons of feminist lit and am unfamiliar w criticisms of the "nuclear family" concept.

if youre gonna come at me with some f*** s*** over legitimate confusion dont bother answering.

She's basically reading off this page: https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/

They explicitly state they are for the advancement of the LGBTQ+ community. They want to help black women as well, but also state they're against men led households, the nuclear family, and really the things black people need most right now. Men and fathers are not mentioned once on the page.

    I’m lost for words

Couldn't really take her seriously as soon as she came sideways at the idea they might be communist, when has there been a serious black liberation movement that wasn't helmed by communists, or someone who's politics swang that way?
