Keeps the conversation going, allows the artist to stay in the limelight longer than they would these days with just one album/drop.

Look at how many artists this year alone have gone this route - Future & Metro, ¥$, Kid Cudi, Childish Gambino, not to mention the multi-drop tactics of Taylor and Travis.

Not to say that Justin's actually doing this here, but it's definitely become a valid tactic unfortunately.

Oh most assuredly, but I'm sure there'd also be some goofy exec out there somewhere who could conceivably see the market works these days, see that one of their acts is about to drop a 8/9 track album or something, and then say "hmmm... what if we do two EPs instead?!"
