One of the oldest recorded hip hop performances in history. Crazy how much boom bap learned from this blueprint man. The scratching isn't quite as technical as we came to know it later on, but everything starts somewhere
If anything is missing from modern hip hop, it's scratching man. S*** is raw.

I just want to put out there, big fan of RXK Nephew and I think he should drop a 80’s rap project. He always raps about how his crack and swag are from the 80’s
Oh he’s mastering that ceremony
I like how, despite how primitive it is, it still has that classic hip hop energy. It's so cool seeing how far it stretches back, it must've been something to hear s*** like this for the first time.
My mom got invited to a hip hop party in 1980 while in college in Queens and didn't go

My aunt is from Queens and although she was born in like 72 I want to ask her what her first experience with hip hop was
I've been seeing the "Hip-Hop turns 50" s*** all over for months so I did a little dive. There is the a whole period at the beginning where they weren't even recording records yet, it was spinning records at parties and scratching, probably b-boy dancing, graffiti. All the s*** that is now non-existent in the culture. Pretty sad tbh

I'd love to hear RXK Nephew rapping over a modern day Mantronix style beat lmao
80s production is overhated. It wasn't the best but it had its moments
It inspires my beats a lot genuinely. 80s production was funky as hell, they just didn't have the budget/tech to make it snap like that. Trap in many ways is a continuation of that 80s style

We’re so far gone mfs don’t even rap about old school chevys anymore

We can bring it back
Trap at its best is a faithful upgrade to the 80s. Part of why I love Memphis Rap so much, it's like boom bap and 80s rap mixed together but more atmospheric than either

ill try to DM him on IG and put the bug in his head

Big KRIT might have been the last one
We can bring it back
I hope early culture has a renaissance. That would be dope

Make Drunk Cool Again and even parts of Slitherman had the vibes tbh
Beam On Ya Toes is like a Mantronix record made in the future they were approximating back in the mid-80s but is ridiculously funny

I can see these dancier rap beats becoming more common. I’d really like the jersey club to take off if people could properly execute it. And there’s been songs that have edm/dnb/house influence in general. Maybe if people didn’t try to overcomplicate those beats and it was more stripped back it could work

Detroit Trap been sampling 80s bops, it's pretty cool
Big KRIT might have been the last one
Literally been listening to krit and thinking that
Eric B. & Rakim sampled that Newcleus track I posted to make this iconic banger
open hi hats going crazy on this
Dope
I think there might be a recording out there of Jazzy Jeff premiering the transformer scratch too but not sure

I been tryna make trap beats that have an 80s electro flare to them but also with a little of that Rodeo synthwork peppered on. I sample "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga and "Can You Feel It" by Mr. Fingers here
I genuinely love 80s hip hop lol it's so fun and colorful. I think that dipping into that 80s bag is going to be really important going forward because so few people realize how much of 80s DNA is still in hip hop. They just discredit it as "primitive"
