while i dont want to make a silver lining out of a horrific injury like this, there is a world where:

1. the c's wouldn't have won the title this year or next year anyway
2. this injury will force a bigger rebuild (we would have done this anyway but this frees us to go deeper with it)
3. that freedom to rebuild could set us up better and result in a title in the second half of tatum's career

it is not unfeasible that this injury just gained us another banner or set us up for better success starting in the 2026-2027 season

no getting around how much this sucks but thinking of this possibility makes it hurt less

it was looking like the team wasn’t good enough anyway to be honest. especially JB and kristaps. we weren’t going to win with them playing like complete garbage all playoffs. absolutely shameful playoff run by those two players. jrue and al weren’t great either.

tatum and derrick white were the only players who brought it. pritchard showed he can be part of a playoff rotation. the rest of this team was not playing nearly well enough for us to succeed, and that’s the story of this postseason outside of tatum’s injury obviously.

it’s crazy the way this series exposed our supposedly deep roster. maybe it was just bad injury luck, but man JB and kristaps playoff runs have been ugly. and JB had a bad season before the knee issues. he might be declining player at this point.

side note jaylen brown making that all nba team one year really set this franchise back with the second apron and whatnot. having to pay a guy who isn’t even a top 20 player in the league 300 million dollars isn’t an efficient roster building move but we were forced into it.

not finding a way to ship him out for kevin durant was so foolish. JB has peaked and is probably going to decline over the next couple years. and even JB’s peak is nowhere near durant even at age his current age. the idea that JB gave you a longer window was completely fake.
