the amount of shots tatum is missing at the rim is staggering. he was at like 39% before tonight after being 60%+ the rest of his career. that'll positively regress. his shot profile is improved. even while he's in a slump there's reason for optimism. jaylen is scoring 20 ppg on over 50%, and kemba is having the best season of his career. hayward looked so good he might've opted out after this season playing at that level. still might.

Yeah tatums percentage at the rim is down and you can say it's bad luck or whatever so far and he'll eventually get better than the 45% he's shooting at the rim right now, but he's missing the same shots every night. His left hand is looking weak, he doesn't get calls when he drives, and he doesn't jump over or through guys

in the past, he hasn't had to worry about big men as often because Horford spaces the floor. Theis, Kanter, Rob and Grant don't do that. The only spot he has a respectable shooting % from right now is 3. So unless he starts actually playing efficient basketball, the whole notion that he's better now than last year is going to be nothing more than a narrative. Because 20 points on 19 shots per game is f***ing terrible.

it's a long season, it's only game 11. JB is having no such issues at the rim and I find it hard to believe Tatum's percentages won't regress to the mean. in the end we have enough perimeter shooting for good floor spacing, I think JT will be fine in the long run. all that matters is that he's playing his best ball in April. and with the C's positioning themselves for a run at the 1 seed, they could potentially only have to play 1 of PHI + MIL during their playoff run. this team as currently constructed is probably a deadline move away from having a real shot to win the East, although I'll give you that the logistics behind making a move with our roster construction are complicated.

these games against the suns, clippers, and nuggets will tell us a lot about what the potential of this team is.
