I feel like the success he had gained by beating Joshua in that first fight just got too him,simple as that. He said it himself that he wasn’t taking training for that 2nd Joshua fight seriously and that rollercoaster of being on top and falling way down got to him. He needed a change and it looks like he worked hard for it.
