Kosinski is by no means a bad filmmaker at all. But it blows my mind how the studios and some people think he is a future Spielberg/Cameron level filmmaker when its pretty obvious Cruise is the reason behind Mavericks quality. Tron Legacy is pretty solid but the rest of his work is quite mediocre and he doesn't really have anything in his work beyond a workmanlike sense of understanding of how to make a "fun" film. If he operated in any other era of cinema back when there were actual talented filmmakers working, he'd be closer to a Simon West or later career Wolfgang Peterson (though hes certainly not as good as Wolf) than the actual filmmakers who got blank check projects like this regularly.
