I do think something like ai is similar to cgi where it should be looked at in a case to case basis

Something like Late Night with the Devil, where they took a shortcut and used generative AI to create images is hard to argue for. Lazy at the very least

But in a case like this where ai was only used to tweak their annunciations but it’s still 100% their performance, and where ai was initially used for the drawings but they were redrawn by an actual artist? It doesn’t feel as egregious to me

100% I’ll never agree with taking away jobs from people just to “generate” some images. And I don’t agree with using it at all for my personal work, definitely not when it comes to writing. Not even to generate ideas, lol I’ve tried fooling around with those ChatGPT things and they generate the most cliche ideas lol.

But in the case of like the voice filter, I question well could they have achieved that with a little extra work? But do I actually care that much that they tweaked s*** a little wit AI? No I don’t.

I have more of an issue with the accent thing than using AI to create building renderings tbh

Like that gives them an unfair advantage when it comes to awards considerations in a sense.

I’m not a fan of AI either, and would greatly prefer it not being used at all. But the reality is that it is going to be and soon from artists we praise for their creativity. Knew it was a fight already lost when Paul Schrader of all people praised using AI

Should be disqualified from awards shows for using AI

  • Jan 19, 2025

Not thrilled about AI accent correction being used but also not pissed.

It’s not like there’s even a lot of Hungarian in the movie

  • Jan 19, 2025

Just an odd choice when no one but Hungarians would ever recognize an inaccurate accent

dont like AI for backgrounds, really hate AI for performance tweaking

Award shows should just get rid of the production design category in a few years since no real people are going to work on it, unless you’re luckily in a budget that can pay artists

i even get that theres a process to like tweaking the ai generations to your liking, but its still inherently generated from this weird inhuman place that we don't even have a real understanding of. the human brain is a portal to infinite creativity (shout out to lynch) and we over here "experimenting with ai" its a cop out no matter which angle you approach it from lol.

Nailed it. What disgusts me about ai "art" is how it's devoid of any humanity. It's completely cold and ugly. All it does is steal references from actual human artists and regurgitates it as something else entirely.

This is a vital time in the stand against AI technology that can and will ruin this medium forever if it goes unchecked and unpunished. At least I'll be able to say I did my part

That’s because Paul Schrader is a visionary creative artist. AI is just a tool can be used in good and bad ways. As you said earlier using it for lazy stock pictures in that Late Night w The Devil movie is a bad way to use it, enhancing Hungarian accents so that it sounds more accurate for Hungarian speakers is kind of a ingenious way to use it imo. But some people already piss their pants and throw a tantrum when they hear those 2 letters.

    why do you think this?

Because he was a huge technology freak and was always using the latest hardware and software he could get his hands on. He was a visionary artist that was always pushing the boundaries and innovating. Also wasn’t so concerned with what some ppl itt call ‘ethics’.

Someone itt made a good point about how altering an actor's accent detracts from their performance. And they're absolutely right. There's a significant difference between an actor genuinely committing to authenticity vs relying on some artificial bs to "enhance" it.
