I hate that the dominant sound on this album is “have to” type beats, and all of the songs in that style were mid too, idk how ppl are saying pure fantasy is one of best. I could’ve gone without 4 seasons entirely
That being said, he f***ing spazzed on strangers and vanilla sky. If his pen was always this consistent he’d be unstoppable

I’m loving it. Sonder son was my favorite. This builds on that sound to me.. I wasn’t a big fan when he started doing the “toxic” stuff. It was still good music just not quite relatable. This that easy smooth listening for me.

The problem with him getting on older style pop/rnb production is that he doesn't hold a candle toward the older singers. it just comes out mid but technically listenable

Nothing about this is fresh or high level performance i don't think there's anything on here that he hasn't done better on past work

Usually on my first listen of an album I play it all the way through, but I been stuck on butterflies

Song really encapsulates how it feels in the first 48 hours of meeting a new hoe

"strangers." has me in a chokehold. I gotta find a version without the damn memo at the end though lol, little extra elements like that get annoying as hell on-repeat.

"On Icon, I don’t get a sense for why, all of a sudden, Brent is ready to take that next life step. For instance, on “wrong faces.,” he’s telling this girl to leave the streets and come home to him, but he doesn’t explain to her (or us!) what exactly has changed about his mindset. Likewise, the lyrics of the almost-engagement anthem “strangers.” has a good amount of melodrama (“Baby, you were supposed to change your last name/And then it came all crashing down”), yet his chronicles of what went wrong are vague and one-sided: He did everything he could; she messed it up. I’ve been listening to him be a demon for five projects straight and now I’m supposed to believe he’s a hopeless romantic just because he says so?"

I guess I was lucky enough to not be an avid Brent fan, but it was easier for me to accept Brent trying to be better as a lover compared to his last 5 albums lol.

is it a departure for brent? sure, but it feels like a naturally mature one and not forced at all

beautiful production throughout. idk who said the chad hugo song was the worst beat on here, but holy s*** you were wrong. his keys over dpat drums is MAGIC

brent remains to be one of the most consistent artists amongst his contemporaries easily

This is my first Brent album and I'm excited to hear his other s*** because I'm loving this. Genuinely great vocals and an enveloping atmosphere throughout.
