so listening to that new nxworries album last night and besides feeling like a breath of fresh air, it made me realize my own personal critique of modern R&B: ATL seeping into every facet of black music sadly f***ed a lot of development up.
everything even pop music (shoutout to ari with one of the biggest letdowns of 2024) getting 808s and trap drum'd up the ass is crazy. And when I say sample production I dont mean re-interpolating r&b songs like hitmaka dem be doing.
I mean like
One of the greatest R&B songs of the new millennium is literally just a sample loop.
Dumb niggas would've called this "lol dust" in 2024.
Every genre became so caught up in making bangers, we forgot what made R&B special. This why projects like Keiyaa's was so appreciated cause that s*** was so off kilter and left field and just something goddamn new.
Like imagine some of these mainstream singers actually looked at jay versace, knxwledge, madlib, foisey, or just....something DIFFERENT y'know?
some of these flips are better than folks actual songs lol
There has been a bunch of R&B that are doing this rn thank god
Agreed, love seeing this style come up over the last year or so. Heavy in the underground but this album gonna push it even more

Tryna hear a whole project like this from newer artists I need to get hip
Melanie Charles is amazing
Don't think it has to be sample production. Just live instrumentation
Ideally, but I’m being respectful to folks with limited budgets as that’s a big reason why a lot of production is without live instruments.
Yves Tumor isn’t an R&B artist but the use of samples with vocals was always fire to me
We’re f***ed with all this s*** until niggas find a way to bring the budgets back
S/o Missy
Really snapped on this beat

Facts a lot of people don’t know it was co produced by ye lmao
The samples are really a pain to clear
It cost money to interpolate samples too. Why has that not stopped these glorified cover songs with different lyrics from stopping
We’re f***ed with all this s*** until niggas find a way to bring the budgets back
The silver lining is if tours are getting cancelled left and right that we are definitely set for a crucial reset.
The value of music is type decreasing before our very eyes tbh.
It’s a wonder why certain artists that have found successful ventures elsewhere (coughrihannasminocough) are taking they damn time dropping music even if they wanted to.
