Thousands will die in America simply due to heat this year.

more typically die from cold so maybe warmer temps end up being a net positive

It absolutely would not be a net positive when the ramifications of global warming include

    Ocean acidification
    Extreme weather
    Methane release from permafrost melt
    Insect population collapse
    Desertification

why not though? Worldwide much more die from cold than warm weather and I’ve seen some studies peg it at 20x more

Because being cold or warm as a result of weather can be solved by the provision of shelter and utilities. That is a net positive

Literally destroying the biosphere is not a net positive

Climate change doesn't just mean hotter, it also means more erratic and dramatic temperature swings.

Regardless, human beings can adapt very well to cold, but not to heat. Places on earth are already nearing wet bulb levels of heat, which means without air conditioning your body literally cannot cool itself, and lying down in the shade you will simply die.

56 degrees right now for me
