feel like Barry Jenkins comparisons were inevitable due to pierre's involvement and the state of black indie cinema but i read a review from a critic I like that calls it the most poignant film he's seen since Beale Street

Has anyone been able to see this?
I wonder when US/International release dates will be announced
I didn't know Canada made these American dream flicks lol
I liked A Thousand and One. Still gotta see Bruiser. Looks like another good black indie drama

Earth Mama as well.
Kinda sad how black indie films don't get the same amount of hype or attention that the "white" ones do coming out of the festival circuit. Many of them have good reviews too but they're usually met with indifference by the film twitter and LB crowd

A Thousand and One actually got a wide release by a mainstream studio. About the best you can hope for with these movies. They aren't exactly money makers.

Im not even talking about box office. I'm talking about discussion and engagement with these movies. If you look at the LB logs for instance, a white indie can easily get 100k logs within a few months of release while a black one would be lucky to get 20k. There's an imbalance and bias to the kind of stories that get propped up by film twitter and LB folks, it's not that obvious until you critically look at it

LB is like the only place those movies are "popular"
Idk, they get made and they're good. Popularity is for superhero movies
